Venus into Capricorn: the planet of love takes a tour of duty

Venus entered Capricorn November 5, 2013, and will remain in this sign until March 5, 2014.

Venus usually spends 26-30 days or so in each sign, but it will remain here for four plus months because the planet ruling love, money and values will retrograde on December 21, 2013. During this period love and friendships will be tried and tested.

Venus is in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, the planet of structure and stability. This will work best for earth signs, and some water signs.

Venus in this sign gives love and social activities a more traditional, perhaps enduring and committed flavor.

Sometimes there can be a desire for social prestige and attraction to those in positions of authority. We may experience ambition for wealth and status and may be attracted to those we meet in connection with work.

Love and friendships may take on a more committed or serious tone during this period. Many will be looking for ways to make our lives and loves more real in a tangible sense.

Those born with Venus in Capricorn are interested in the tangible side of love and romance. They may be or seem traditional on a deep level and concerned with the logistics of a white picket fence ideal: where would we live and how do we pay for it. These individuals like to own property and a successful partner will sweeten the deal. Romance can be overshadowed by responsibility which will generally come first.

Venus will retrograde on December 21, 2013 but the shadow period of the retrograde begins around November 20, when the energy starts to shift and we become more introspective. Venus goes stationary retrograde December 21-29, and if it is aspecting a personal planet in your chart you could see changes depending on what your chart shows. It goes stationary direct on January 31, at 13 degrees of Libra, and a shadow period follows.

In a general sense when Venus retrogrades love energy becomes more intense and the drama sometimes begins. It is a period when seemingly fated events occur, sometimes appearing to be beyond the control of the parties involved. Relationships can slow down or end. Sometimes those from our past can reappear. It is a time of reviewing and re-accessing your love life. Changes occur, and people can switch their affections and partners. The karma (karma=the universal will, what will ultimately be) of the relationship will play out during this period. Unresolved issues come to the forefront to be resolved one way or another.

If Venus goes stationary direct on a personal planet in your chart or your Sun you may well meet someone significant at this time. A retrograde Venus is not the time to get married, have plastic surgery, buy art, jewelry or items ruled by Venus. Money matters may be slowed down as well.

Venus retrogrades about every 18 months. The most important period is the stationary retrograde period when Venus is starting to retrograde and the stationary direct period when it is about to move forward again.

If you begin a new relationship on a retrograde Venus the love energy may never be fully expressed or when Venus goes direct the relationship may change or end. That is, unless you were born with a retrograde Venus, but the other party in question may not have been.

Other important Venus days include:

November 15, Venus conjuncts Pluto and squares Uranus. Venus-Pluto has the potential for obsessive thoughts and feelings or trying to convince someone of something. At its worst domestic violence, rape and angry situations are sometimes seen. It can degrade or lift one up, depending on the chart and the situation. Venus-Uranus can change, end or begin a situation, but it may not be permanent. This will set off the Uranus-Pluto square and if it falls on a personal planet could bring big changes, good or bad, depending on what is being aspected. We will see major news on this day that will involve women, money, bullies and politics.

November 20, retrograde Venus shadow period begins

November 24, Venus sextiles Saturn and this is a positive transit for business, social activities, commitments and those from the past.

November 28, Venus opposes Jupiter. This is a transit of fun, overindulgence, social boredom and overdoing in many respects. Moderation is the key to all things!

December 21, Venus retrogrades at 28 degrees Capricorn

January 11, 2014, Venus sextiles Saturn (see above)

January 16-18, Venus squares Mars. This can have a sexual connotation, but generally this transit brings trouble through the sexes, jealousy, mild arguments.

January 28-Febuary 5, 2014 Venus conjuncts Pluto and opposes Jupiter. This is a convoluted transit bringing the intensity of Venus-Pluto and the obsessiveness and extremism of Venus-Jupiter. (see above) Things will be blown out of proportion and 'overdone'. It will be a good idea to try and curb your emotions and wait for a calmer period. In the world politics will become theatrical, bullies will emerge, and we may see international terrorism on the rise or a situation that occurred like Syria in the summer.

January 31, 2014, Venus goes stationary direct Any relationship that begins now will not be lukewarm.

February 25, 2014 Venus sextiles Saturn for the third time.

March 1, 2014 Venus shadow period ends

March 3, 2014 Venus squares Mars. (see above)

March 5, Venus enters Aquarius
