November 2024 and the volatile energies

 

November is probably the most pivotal month of the year for obvious reasons. As we begin the month, Mars opposes Pluto and is in a very tight orb (meaning it’s very powerful and close together) through at least the middle of the month, but it will be humming in the background for the rest of the year and in a tight orb again through the first 11 days of January 2025 due to Mars’ retrograde. This is basically a frustrating transit, prone to blocks, delays and in many cases anger.

The election astrology is very complex but I lean toward a Democratic administration, barring some unexpected event at the last minute involving Uranus, the most unpredictable of planets. That said, there appear to be conflicts and possibly a challenge to the election. It’s hard to know when this challenge ends but the Full moon on November 15^th does not bode well for Donald Trump since it squares his 12^th house Mars. It does however fall dead on Kamala Harris’s Jupiter, the planet of luck, justice and gain. In the US chart Saturn trines the US Sun and Saturn rules the Democratic Party. Trines are positive.

Harris’s astrology is difficult with Saturn in the picture but I do not believe Trump will be inaugurated on January 20^th. We can pray for no violence, but if it turns out like this it will be a miracle.

On November 5^th, Mars opposes Pluto having moved into Leo, the sign of grandstanding where it will remain for some time creating anger and frustration.

In the US chart Jupiter (retrograde) squares Neptune in the 9^th house of foreign matters. This tells me there will be intense propaganda and misinformation coming from abroad as well as within the country. Of course if you watch or read creditable news, you know this already as stated by the FBI earlier this year.

On January 6^th, when the election is certified Mars is opposing Pluto in Aquarius. Oppositions can represent change, but this one is still volatile and we will see this again since Mars is retrograde.

Should Harris win, it won’t be easy and it looks like there will be a great deal of stress or opposition through mid-February when Saturn finally leaves her chart. Trump’s chart is difficult as well since Saturn will square his Uranus. We saw this early this year with court appearances.

In November the Sun transits through Scorpio and into Sagittarius. Mars leaves Cancer for Leo on the 6^th and moves only 5 degrees all month since it will retrograde in December. This means Mars is moving very slowly and if you get a Mars transit in your chart it will pack a punch and be more significant than normal for better or worse.

Mercury turns retrograde on the 26^th at 22 degrees of Sagittarius and will not turn direct until December 15^th. Sagittarius rules the 9^th house of world view, legal matters and education.

Mercury in the US chart

Mercury makes a powerful aspect in the US chart during November. On the 21^st it begins to oppose Mars in the 7^th house. Mercury-Mars transits are prone to arguments, disagreements and debate. The 7^th house rules US open enemies and courts/legal matters. It will move to 22 degrees and oppose Mars and square Neptune in the US 9^th house, so it is setting off the natal Mars square to Neptune in the US Sibly chart. Neptune falls in the US 9^th house of courts and foreign affairs and it  deals with courts or foreign matters. Mercury-Neptune transits are prone to lies, disinformation and gas lighting and we will watch this play out in the media..

November 1^st New Moon in Scorpio

This month the New Moon falls at 9 degrees of Scorpio. Scorpio is the most intense sign of the zodiac and rules the 8^th house of other people’s money, sex, death, change and transformation. Its planetary rulers are Mars and Pluto.

The only aspect this moon makes is its trine to Saturn which should assist us in getting many things done. It is not a particularly flashy transit but it will serve a very practical purpose.

November 2^nd, Mercury enters Sagittarius

Sagittarius is the sign ruled by Jupiter the planet of luck, optimism, gain and expansion and when a planet moves into this sign it has a tendency to increase things in some way so our communication and thinking will get broader, bolder and be more optimistic.

Mercury rules travel, communication, young people and our thought process. Our thoughts may turn to travel, some form of education or philosophy and become broader and greatly expanded. We may also feel more buoyant, upbeat and impulsive during this time.

Mercury is not totally comfortable in this energy, but this does not mean things will take a negative turn. In Sagittarius, Mercury worries about the bigger picture of things but can lose track of smaller but important details. While Virgo (another mutable sign) is all about details, Sagittarius is about the overall bigger picture and does not like to be reined in by details or anything that could be considered nit picking or boring.

Mercury in this sign is associated with expansion and the cumulating and spreading of knowledge that can have a great deal of depth. This is an outgoing time and socializing with others will come easier than normal even for those who are on the shy side. This Mercury is about visions of the future and can shine a light on those things which needs to be brought to light.  Jupiter is the planet associated with honesty and justice and our thinking and actions will lean more in this direction than before.

The challenge with Mercury in this sign is developing discernment in the quest for truth and not fall prey to every idea that crosses your path. We must remember that it is only through discernment that we can we narrow down ideas to find the path to the real truth or answer, which is the true quest for Sagittarius.

Mercury turns stationary retrograde on November 26^th, at 22 degrees of Sagittarius. When Mercury is stationary, we really see the retrograde affect and it is very powerful. This is when Mercurial energy drastically shifts and we begin to see the things retrograde Mercury is known for like forgetfulness, breakdowns of machinery, cancelled meetings and the like. The stationary period lasts 3 days.

When Mercury turns direct again on December 6^th, it is in its ‘direct station.’ This is the other time that Mercurial energy changes. Many times when this occurs things change once again so it will be about a week before we are really out of the woods.

In many instances not only does Mercury retrograde deal with the past, it reveals information we need to move forward, so it serves its purpose.

Mars enters Leo November 3rd

Leo is ruled by the Sun which represents our vital core as well as our ego, and has domain over the fifth house of love, entertainment and children.

While Mars in Cancer has been a sensitive and emotional Water sign, Mars in Leo is a Fire sign full of energy and confidence, and in some cases pride. Expect a major shift in direction and energy.

While Mars is in this sign we will seek pleasure, fun and companionship and be in a mood to socialize more and seek attention. Expect to be drawn to attractive clothes, jewelry and other things that make you stand out in the crowd as Mars/Leo can be quite flamboyant. Mars in Leo is no wallflower, and even those who are normally shy may come out of their shell more during this aspect of Mars. Mars/Leo likes to be dramatic and expressive as well as fun loving, creative and passionate. Mars in this sign is typically passionate about the things they do and in some cases can exhibit bravery if the situation calls for it.

Mars in Leo creates a personal need and desire to shine and be recognized. Leo knows fun is a necessary part of life so expect to spend more time socializing and making the most of the warm summer days coming up.

Leo is well known as a sign that is associated with artists, performers and royalty. The downside of Leo is pride, stubbornness and overconfidence. To be someone who is respected and shines in the public light you must do something to be respected and shine and not automatically expect this treatment from others. Overconfidence is a risk so it is important to know what you are talking about if you want to shine and not expect the rewards without the work to back them up.

Leo has a tendency to over dramatize at times and they like their ego stroked. If Leo feels they are not getting enough attention, or being treated they way they feel they deserve to be treated they can get highly offended. Leo’s purr can turn to a roar in a split second and like the Lion that represents them, they retreat back to the jungle. Leo seldom if ever forgets a slight.

Mars will shift back into Cancer January 6^th 2025 due to its December retrograde. It will re-enter Leo once again April 18^th-June 17^th2025 so we will be dealing with Mars Leo and Mars Cancer energies for many months to come.

November 11^th, Venus enters Capricorn

Venus will remain in the Saturn ruled sign until December 7^th.

Venus in Capricorn gives love and social activities a more traditional, enduring and committed flavor. The focus will shift from fun and good times (Sagittarius) to the more practical side of love, which is of course necessary if there is to be a future together.  For example, rather than spending on a 10 day cruise with your significant other, you may decide to save for a home or something else significant and lasting.

Sometimes there can be a desire for social prestige and attraction to those in positions of authority with Venus in this sign. Venus in Capricorn is attracted to wealth, security and status and if you are currently not in a relationship you may be attracted to someone in connection with work or in places of commerce. With Venus in Capricorn, ambition, work and results are front and center.

Love and friendships may take on a more committed or serious tone during this period. Many will be looking for ways to make our lives and loves more real in a tangible sense.

Venus in Capricorn is interested in the practical side of love and romance. Our focus may shift to a more traditional outlook and concerns with questions like where would we live and how do we pay for it?

 Venus in Capricorn likes financial security and a successful partner will sweeten the deal. Romance can be overshadowed by responsibility which will generally come first while Venus transits this sign. Since Capricorn can be known as a workaholic, we may have to slow down a bit to smell the roses and do more than focus on work.

Venus-Capricorn takes a mature approach to relationships and love which must be earned while Venus is in this sign. Relationships will be built on a willingness to work together through difficult times, as Saturn understands the true meaning and value of commitment. Venus will reward hard work in relationships by defining obstacles and making the commitment together to solve problems and overcome obstacles.

Venus in a Saturn ruled sign may not sound appealing to some, but it projects its own type of warmth, stability and security and an earthy type of sensuality. Now is the time to focus on making your relationship more substantive, lasting and real.

Venus in this sign will work best for Earth Signs and if you are a Capricorn or Cappy ascendant you should look and feel great during Venus’s transit through Capricorn.

November 15^th Saturn turns direct

This is a big deal astrologically because Saturn rules our structures, limitations and sometimes successes.

November 15^th begins its ‘stationary direct period’ which means the energy is changing so it can begin to move forward on December 5^th. Until then, Saturn is very powerful in its station and you should see some type of result if Saturn is making an aspect in your personal chart. This is a major change that will affect us personally as well as collectively.

While retrograde, Saturn slows down the normal rate of activity so better methods can be developed and organized. Saturn rules the structures in our lives and allows us to develop boundaries. During Saturn’s retrograde we can pinpoint those parts of our life that seem to lack stability, and shore them up.

Wherever Saturn is located at birth in your personal chart is where you need more work to avoid feeling limitation, but Saturn moves through each section or house in your chart over a 30 year period. Saturn remains in each sign about two and a half years. Saturn can represent a reality check in many areas of our lives depending on what section of your chart it is currently moving through.

As Saturn turns direct this can be good news on many fronts, especially situations that have been stuck or in some way or unproductive.   While Saturn was retrograde many problems were internalized that were difficult to figure out. As Saturn turns direct again, we should have resolved many of these internal issues and begin to implement our new solutions. This will occur individually and globally with a better sense of things that we need to focus on and where our own personal boundaries lie.

Saturn will remain in Pisces this year but in 2025 it will dip its toes into the sign Aries, which will represent major changes in the world and for us all.

November 15^th full moon in Taurus

The full moon this month falls at 24 degrees of Taurus, ruler of the 2^nd house of money. The ruling planet is Venus, the planet of love, values and money.

This moon will be very powerful since it is conjunct Uranus almost to the degree. With an aspect like this, it will be hard to predict since Uranus is the planet of the unexpected. Something like this could be tied to earthquakes, upheaval, explosions, explosive situations and anything else that could be considered unexpected. Its sextile to Neptune can provide some compassion and creativity and its trine to Pluto has to do with groups and perhaps authority figures. In the US chart it sextiles Mercury, the planet of communication so there may be important communication at this time.

Saturn turns direct the same day, and this is often tied to events that are important on the world stage.

November 16^th, on the heels of this full moon the Sun opposes Uranus and this becomes part of the Full moon energy. Sun opposing Uranus relates to changeability and unexpected events. People you may deal with may be changeable, or you may be.  Uranus has a penchant for freedom, upending things, revolts and revolting and is hard to predict. It is possible we could see a change in the financial markets with the Moon in Taurus and the Sun in Scorpio which rule the 2^nd/8^th house axis of money. Uranus transits have a tendency to cause things to fall through at the last minute.

.To find out where this falls in your chart you must know which house is ruled by Taurus in your chart. There are many free sites on the internet where you can do this. I think there will be many unexpected things happening to a lot of us with an aspect like this. Taurus’s ruler Venus, also represents love. Relationships that are tottering on the edge may end, and others may start up with an aspect like this. Some will find this exciting, even like a sparkling day and others will find it nerve wracking, depending on what it does in your chart and your temperament.  Don’t plan things too tightly on this day and at least 2 days before and after.

Pluto enters Aquarius

November 19^th Pluto re-enters Aquarius and this time it will remain in this sign for the next 20 years changing our lives and changing the world. We are leaving behind the US Pluto return which has changed the country and in many respects the world. The affects of this period will continue to play out for many years to come.

The role of Pluto

In astrology, Pluto rules the collective and is very significant in terms of world events and changes, although it is also significant for us on a personal level depending on what it is aspecting in your personal chart.

Pluto destroys and tears down to rebuild. It is supposed to rebuild in a stronger way, although it may not seem like this at the time if you are experiencing a hard Pluto transit in your chart. When a Pluto aspect occurs-positive or negative-it is going to change something, ready or not. It is always an important time in the world when Pluto enters a new sign. For example when Pluto entered Capricorn January of 2008, it was followed by the US bank crisis, the harbinger of what was called ‘The Great recession.”

When Pluto entered Sagittarius in early 1995, we saw the Oklahoma City bombing just a few months later, along with the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin and an end to US President Bill Clinton’s efforts to bring about peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

When Pluto entered Scorpio November 6, 1983 a bomb exploded the next day in the Senate Wing of the Capitol, apparently in retaliation of the US’s invasion of Grenada. 1983-84 also saw the rise of AIDS deaths in the US and around the world.

Aquarius is the sign of the collective and the natural ruler of the 11^th house which also rules the collective. On an individual level we may be drawn to certain groups, organizations or philosophies that become important. The downside of this is that we can become too attached to our own ‘groups’ and ideas and fail to acknowledge that others can have good ideas as well, whether in a political or some other sense.

Since Aquarius is co-ruled by Uranus technologies will certainly boom, and we can already see the beginning of this with AI. Personally, I think this represents the future along with many ideas we may not even be able to conceive of at the present. 20 years before the internet boomed few individuals could foresee that it would change the world and society as we know it.

While Aquarius is a sign associated with war, it is also the most Democratic of signs. While Pluto in Capricorn has been about big business, patriarchy and plutocrats, Aquarius will be the opposite in the long run. While we have seen the rise of right wing extremism around the world, we will see the rise of the people and the desires of the majority as opposed to being governed by the few or a minority. None of this will happen overnight however, and it is important to remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day and the problems of the world won’t be all solved with this transit of Pluto or any other sign. Humanity is constantly a work in progress.

 While the true ‘Age of Aquarius’ timeline is somewhat elusive and mysterious, with the entrance of Pluto into Aquarius we will certainly feel this is the the “Age of Aquarius,” and will be influenced by Aquarian themes such as;

-unexpected and explosive events

-new discoveries and understandings

-new technologies such as AI, but many more along with medicine

-uprisings around the globe associated with restrictions on people

-aircraft/spacecraft and new technologies

-stronger friendships with a greater emphasis on friends

-a desire for freedom from oppressive governments

- Vermont became the first colony to ban slavery (1777) and the Vermont legislature moved to provide full voting rights to African American men.

--The American Revolution was being fought

-France entered the Revolutionary War

-The French Revolution occurred

-US drafts the dollar

-George Washington became first US President

-US Constitution drafted and signed

What Pluto does in your life, depends on where it falls in your chart. Those who will be affected to a greater degree at this time will have the Sun or other personal planets at 0-1 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

Pluto represents evolutionary change in the world and our personal lives and charts. When Pluto enters a new house in your chart, the change to that sector of your chart, or part of life it governs will be slow. By the end of the transit you will see marked changes in your life. We probably won’t even recognize the same world we live in today.

November 21^st, the Sun enters Sagittarius

The Sun will remain in the Sign ruled by Jupiter until December 21^st.

Mutable planets are changeable and they switch their mode of expression frequently. They often have a natural diplomatic bent, but can often be perceived as unreliable and uncommitted due to their constant changeability. The mutable signs in astrology are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. When the Sun goes into any of these signs we may change our minds and ideas more frequently than normal as we consciously or subconsciously tap into the energy of the Sun in Sagittarius.

Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion and is typically an upbeat and positive sign for the Sun to transit through. While the Scorpio season can be too intense for some, Sagittarius is not really interested in drama, heaviness or diving deeply into emotions or intensity. Sagittarius rules the 9^th house in astrology or the part of the horoscope that concerns education and philosophy, travel, legal matters/courts and your personal world viewpoint.  Energies will shift dramatically as Sagittarius is the antithesis of Scorpio with its typical happy go lucky attitude, big dreams and desire for new escapades, journeys and trips, especially down the road less traveled. 

Sagittarius is the precursor to the holiday season with all of the typical parties, social activity and gatherings. Sagittarius represents the bold, the different and the often untried, and a Sagittarius is often one of the hardest people to ever pin down. Freedom is a theme with this sign and you may feel a desire to be free to pursue your own ideas and goals.  You may even strongly want to cut ties with any person or situation that seems to hold you back.

Sagittarius is self assured, sometimes to the point of cockiness, being totally honest and at times putting their foot in their mouths. If you don’t keep things in check you could express these qualities to the point of annoying someone. Sagittarius is typically so self assured they often don’t realize their boldness can turn some people off. Sagittarius is known for their fiery cheerfulness but their frequently overblown optimism can lead to inflated ideas and expectations.

The downside of Sag can be restlessness, boredom and a lack of attention to details. The old saying, ‘the devil is in the details,’ can often come out as the unbridled optimism of Sagittarius can end up with plans changing or going south, when the details become apparent or are left out.

Astrology can show where you meet your love

 

Astrology can tell us where we will meet our love-at least the most significant one. This does not apply to everyone you meet or date, just the most important one or ones, such as someone you marry or have a very long term relationship with.

Venus is the sign ruling love, and where Venus is placed in your chart can tell you where you will meet your love. Look at this as either directly or indirectly. For example, let’s say Venus is in your 2^nd house of money and you are friends with someone at the bank, who introduces you. It can be direct contact or through some type of intervention involving someone else.

To do this you must first know your Venus sign and where it falls in your chart, using equal sign astrology. There are many free sites on line where you can look this up.

Once you know your sign and house Venus is in you can proceed.

Venus in the houses-where you meet your most significant loves;

Venus in the 1^st house-The first house rules appearance and self. You could meet someone while doing something for yourself such as shopping, getting your hair done, taking a class, Etc.

Venus in the 2^nd house-This house rules money and income. You could meet your love while purchasing something significant, or dealing with something that relates to money, income or a purchase either directly or indirectly. You could meet them at a bank, financial institution, through a credit process; anything dealing with finance or money.

Venus in the 3^rd house-The 3^rd house rules siblings, immediate family, neighbors, co-workers, and your neighborhood and surroundings, so it could be someone who lives close. It also rules the mind and learning, so classes, seminars, libraries or anything like this. The 3^rd house is also associated with short trips, like around town.

Venus in the 4^th house- The 4^th house rules home and family members, so you could meet someone through family. Also we do many things at home and call many people to the home; realtors, electricians, contractors, etc. We also do many things at home these days like working at home-we are on the phone. We are also using apps and on the internet these days.

Venus in the 5^th house-The 5^th house involves friends, entertainment venues, creativity, social activities and children. It could be a child’s teacher for example, or it could be through an older child.

Venus in the 6^th house-This house rules work, health, daily routines and work day activities. You could meet someone at a Dr.’s office, health food store, and gym, sports activities, through work or activities at work. For example, if you are in sales, you could meet someone like this.

Venus in the 7^th house-This house rules partners of all types; business partners, ex’s and people in your life on a day to day basis that could include really close friends.

Venus in the 8^th house-This house rules investments, loans, taxes, debt, death and shared assets or it could be shared experiences with someone else. This house also rules sex. You could potentially meet your love through what you believe to be a one night stand.

Venus in the 9^th house-This house rules travel, foreigners, education, politics and courts. It also rules publishing and broadcasting. I have seen this house tied to the  I T world and at times the internet.

Venus in the 10^th house-This house rules career and reputation; it is also considered the house of the Father, so someone through the Father or those related to or associated with the father. And remember; directly or indirectly.

Venus in the 11^th house-The 11^th house rules friends, groups like social groups, companies and organizations, or any type of ‘group association’ that could even include social media.

Venus in the 12^th house-This house rules the ‘inner self and spirituality. You could meet at a retreat, metaphysical bookstore or meeting, or anything dealing with the inner world, spirituality or even religion. This house also rules places of seclusion; hospitals, rehab centers and isolated places in general that could include even parks, somewhere in nature if it is quiet and isolated.

Mars opposes Pluto

 

Mars has entered its opposition to Pluto and this aspect will remain with us through early 2025, humming in the background at the very least.

Mars represents war, men, aggression, and action and is always present in war related situations. Mars in Cancer can promote real patriotism or what poses as patriotism, whether it really is or not.

The first peak of this aspect is on November 3^rd, but it will be very powerful in the days before and after.

Expect to see anger, volatility and conflict over this period, especially since we are in the US election period. The potential for violence exists. This is certainly not limited to events in the US as it aspects since it aspects many other charts of leaders not in the US.

This aspect is present on November 5^th, Election Day in the US.  On November 3^rd, Mars moves into Leo, still in opposition to Pluto and Leo is the sign of grandstanding.

Cancer-Capricorn represents the 4^th/10^th house of home and the homeland. This aspect falls on Pluto in the US natal chart, and the US is in its last pass of its powerful Pluto return. Pluto represents power and powerful leaders as well as corruption and force, subversive elements and destructiveness.

November 19^th, Pluto enters the sign of Aquarius after Mars has entered Leo. The opposition will change from Cancer/Capricorn to Leo/Aquarius and Aquarius rules the collective.

Mars in Leo begins its retrograde December 6^th. By the end of December Mars is at 2 degrees and once again in a tight orb with its opposition to Pluto becoming exact once again the first 3 days of January 2025, and its influence will remain powerful at least through mid-January. Needless to say, there will be a great deal of volatility around the world during this period.

This will affect you to a greater degree if you have Cardinal (Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn) planets at 27-29 degrees, or Fixed planets (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) at 0-2 degrees.

This does not mean the sky is falling, and life will go on, but the results of the transit will be obvious and speak for themselves.

In our lives we can expect to feel a certain amount of frustration, and it may be best to avoid contentious issues, or to force confrontations. While you may feel fine, the person you are dealing with may be under the direct influence of this aspect.

On a more positive note, Pluto is the planet of regeneration and transformation. While not easy, transformation of some type is possible with a great deal of hard work. Letting go of problematic relationships and bad habits are a strong possibility.

The best thing anyone can do with this type of aspect is to find something to direct your energy toward. It could be work, writing, gardening, cleaning out closets; anything that is a positive direction of personal energy.

Fearing the aspects or living in fear is never a good thing, and not intended. Awareness at this time however, is key to navigating the times effectively.

 

 

October's combative full moon

 

This month’s full moon falls at 24 degrees of Aries and will prove to be one of the most combative full moons of the year. This is also a Super Moon known to be associated with weather and earth related events.

Aries is ruled by Mars and Pluto the 2 planets associated with conflict, war, action and transformation. This will be a ‘hot’ full moon due to its square to Pluto and Mars. This moon actually forms a grand cross which is an aspect that looks like an X or cross pulling in the energy of all 4 planets which are The Sun, Moon, Pluto and Mars. These planets are all in Cardinal signs which means action or movement.

This can and will certainly stir up conflicts in our personal lives and on the world stage. This Moon will square Mercury and Pluto, the 2^nd/8^th houses in the US chart which will concern money and finances, important news, and the potential exists that we could hear of a significant death of someone well known, or deaths in some other way.

Perhaps Venus’s sextile to Pluto can help some, giving us the strength of communication and negotiation. I wouldn’t bet on it too much though though because it also opposes Uranus contributing to more unpredictability, especially in terms of relationships and finances.

Moon-Mars aspects contribute to upset or anger and attacks that could be toward you or vice versa. Moon-Pluto attacks deal with the deeper and often darker things that lie in our subconscious mind, obsession and paranoia, new information revealed, and sometimes endings.

This full moon basically sets off the next transit which is Mars opposing Pluto. This is a harsh combination and is associated with cruelty, friction, arguments, attacks and the like. As Mars approaches Pluto the energy will build up until we get to the end of the month, especially the last 3 days when Mars is within a few degrees. The peak of this transit is November 3^rd. At that time Mars enters Leo but it is still opposing Pluto in a tight orb until about the 10^th of November when it separates further.

This too will affect the US chart and a great deal will be happening in the world.

While the energy at that time may lighten up some Mars and Pluto will remain in an orb of influence the rest of the year. They will tightly oppose each other again the first 10 days of January, due to Mars’ retrograde in December.

On a deeper level, taking a look at some of the fixed stars in play on this full moon and subsequent transit may be trying to teach us something leading to better times collectively. We do not have to give in to the angry energies and be reactive. Sometimes the best reaction is no reaction.

 

The very powerful astrology of October 2024

 

This month the Sun travels through Libra and enters Scorpio, the 2^nd sign of fall. Mercury transits through Libra and Scorpio and Venus, transits through Scorpio and enters Sagittarius. Mars continues its long transit through Cancer and Jupiter retrogrades. We will experience a solar eclipse in Libra and a powerful full moon in Aries. Due to time constraints, this newsletter will be shorter than normal, but I will be back later in the month with more. Now, the details.

This month unfortunately will continue to be fraught with difficulty and turmoil which of course results in part because of the election in the US and war on several fronts that appear to be expanding at the time of this post. The powerful Libra eclipse squares Mars, the planet of war an aggression and anger. At this time Israel appears to be on the verge of a ground war in Lebanon as well as what appears to be imminent conflict with Iran.

In terms of politics, the conflict will continue in the US Presidential election, if not escalate. The Full Moon on October 17^th looks harsh for Candidate Trump as it squares his Venus-Saturn, along with Mars’ square to the same a few days later, so we can look for him to face issues, and potentially more information is publically revealed.

The harshest transit of the month will be Mars’ opposition to Pluto. While this transit doesn’t peak until November 3^rd, we will certainly feel the energy toward the last few days of the month, in particular.

This is an angry and volatile transit in our personal lives and on the world stage, where we can expect to see a great deal unfold. This aspect has to do with money, and in the case of the US it could unfold over a budget; but there will also be other concerns at the time. This will aspect the US 2^nd house and Pluto, the planet of authority as well as corruption, crime and in some cases even death. Mars will hit Pluto in the US chart October 27-29, so we can expect this to be a volatile time in terms of politics, and we will see many events play out at this time especially in the known hot spots around the globe such as Ukraine/Russia and the Middle East.

The Libra Solar eclipse

October’s solar eclipse falls at 10 degrees of Libra on October 2^nd, and the lunar peak is around 2:49PM, EDT.

Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, money and values, and it is here our attention will be focused.  That said, this Moon squares Mars making it a time fraught with conflict and the potential for more violence around the world. The moon’s square to Mars won’t help a lot of relationships, and there will be those tottering on the edge that will end.

The Full Moon in Aries on April 17th

Aries is ruled by Mars and Pluto the 2 planets associated with conflict, war, action and transformation. This will be a ‘hot’ full moon due to its square to Pluto and Mars.

This can certainly stir up conflicts in our personal lives and on the world stage. This Moon will square Mercury and Pluto in the US chart which will concern money and finances, important news, and the potential exists that we could hear of a significant death of someone well known.

Perhaps Venus’s sextile to Pluto can help some, giving us the strength of communication and negotiation. I wish I had better news, but this is a full moon to watch.

Jupiter turns retrograde October 9^th

Jupiter turns retrograde October 9^th-February 4^th, 2025 at 21 degrees of Gemini for a period of about 4 months as it does every year.

 

Astrologers refer to Jupiter as the ‘greater benefic’. Jupiter bestows abundance and material success, luck and good fortune, joy and positivity. Some of its qualities include benevolence, a love of justice, kindness, gain and generosity. While Jupiter’s negative qualities are seldom mentioned they are typically associated with the belief luck and expansion can go on forever, expanding too fast, over indulging, overspending or blowing things out of proportion.

 

 Jupiter’s retrograde does not mean we will be without luck but during this time we will focus more on personal inner growth rather than those things that are outside of ourselves and material growth. Jupiter’s retrograde is not a negative aspect as it helps us work on issues concerning personal happiness, money and success which can be implemented when it turns direct again. Some may hardly notice the retrograde of Jupiter as it has a very subtle affect.

 If you have been working at accomplishing something with no real structure or plan for getting there this will be the time to step back and look at the bigger picture. It does not mean loss, but is more akin to working smartly instead of hard, and directing your actions along the most profitable and fortuitous lines.

You may encounter some type of detour or correction during the four month retrograde depending on where Jupiter is transiting in your personal chart. You may question many things philosophically and your viewpoint on some things could change as you seek deeper truths and greater meaning in all you do at this time.

In addition to money and finances Jupiter rules courts/judiciaries lawyers, foreigners, and foreign places, education, religion, medicine, and spirituality. All of these things can shift in some way and we will see these matters play out in the world and our personal lives.

Mercury enters Scorpio October 13-November 2^nd

Mercury rules our communication and while in Scorpio we are typically searching, digging for truth and a little more suspicious in nature. Mercury in this sign can be intense and will leave no stone unturned if looking for an answer. Our thinking and communication will be deep and substantive, and Scorpio is known as being relentless; in other words, we don’t give up easily, if at all.

Mercury in Scorpio communication is more direct and forceful (Mars) as well as probing, inquisitive and prone to reading between the lines (Pluto). Sometimes this may be warranted, but often it is not.

You can use Scorpio’s perceptive and calculating approach to concentrate and focus on what you want to direct your energy toward as Scorpio is very focused. Mercury in Scorpio is frank to the point of being blunt; at times too blunt. During this period we tend to churn ideas around quite a bit before reaching a final conclusion. As Scorpio is a fixed sign, decisions made at this time are often irreversible. Mercury-Scorpio is passionate in speech and communication but we must be careful about lecturing others. Others will be equally passionate, and quite a few secrets will be exchanged at this time. Our judgment will be at its best when it is not personal. If this happens the emotional side of Scorpio may take over and we could lose our objectivity.

Venus enters Sagittarius October 17-November 11^th

When the planet of love and money enters Sagittarius things can get a lot more fun and interesting. This energy will be far different from the Scorpio energy we have become used to over the last few weeks. While Scorpio is deep, intense and sometimes brooding, Sagittarius is lighter and buoyant and geared toward new experiences, good times and living life to the fullest.

Venus in Sagittarius has been known to gallop away quickly if things get too heavy or serious, especially if a new relationship is involved. Typically, Sagittarius can be the most restless of signs and cannot stand to be bored or held back. Venus-Sagittarius does not like confrontations or discord and sometimes likes to wear rose colored glasses. Sagittarius can settle down but with Venus in this sign things are geared more toward romance, excitement and pleasure as opposed to commitment.

Sagittarius is associated with freedom and experimentation, along with jovial and upbeat times. Serious minded lovers may find this hard to deal with along with those who a looking for a stable commitment. Emotional drama, possessiveness and heavy emotions do not go over very well with Venus in this sign. Sagittarius is about expanding our outlook and definition of what pleases. You may find yourself in a more idealistic mode over the next few weeks and expect your lover to keep up with any changes you experience. This may singe the wings of the more sensitive types as can the typical Sagittarius blunt honesty which can come across as indifferent and harsh although it is seldom intended this way. Sagittarius likes to consider himself or herself completely honest but is often lacking in sensitivity and the awareness of others moods and feelings which has caused many an unpleasant scene.

Sagittarius love begins with friendship and may seem more like a universal type of friendship/love. Sometimes it can be hard to define the difference between the two for those born with Venus in this sign.  Romantic adventures, truth and higher meaning are the qualities that will take priority during our nearly 4 week period with Venus in this sign. If you allow yourself the emotional freedom this can be a fun and liberating time full of new adventures, but you must remain flexible.

Pluto turns direct October 12th

When Pluto turns direct, we could say the energy of this powerful planet seems to “wake up.” It energizes any planets that are around it and intensifies their effect. Pluto is considered ‘stationary direct,’ until November 19^th when it moves back into Aquarius. The stationary direct period is when the energy seems most intense. On a personal level you could go through some type of ‘rebirth’ process or change of circumstances but again this will be much more obvious is it is doing something in your own chart.

While Pluto is retrograde its energy is often internalized, as opposed to being out in the open. Often this seems to keep certain things hidden, and when it goes direct situations appear to suddenly be revealed. These situations were actually there all along, we were just not consciously aware of them or they were hidden from our psyche in some way. So, when Pluto goes direct it appears to bring many things out into the open.

While Pluto is retrograde we typically go through some kind of an awakening or healing process in many cases. Some individuals are put into situations where they look fear in the eye in some manner and are forced to deal with it whether they are willing or not. For others it is a process of gaining wisdom or insight into something depending on where Pluto is transiting through your chart and it varies from person to person.

Many partnerships and financial ventures that have been delayed will begin to move forward now that Pluto is direct. The retrograde demands that we internalize the energy for a while, and then externalize the changes we have incorporated during this time when Pluto turns direct.

Now is the time to appreciate and recognize your own personal growth that has occurred over the past 5 months, and move forward with a better picture of yourself, your partnerships and your own place in the world.

Pluto squares Mercury

When Pluto turns direct it does so in a square to Mercury at 28 degrees of Libra. Mercury-Pluto transits have to do with propaganda, news, arguments, accidents and obsessions. This can be an aspect that generates a great deal of news, and when Pluto turns direct it typically coincides with major world events.

At the same time, the Sun squares Mars. While this can generate a great deal of action, it is also prone to conflict, aggression and Mars is the God of war.

The Sun enters Scorpio October 22-November 22^nd

When the Sun enters Scorpio on October 22, it begins its yearly trek through the sign that rules money and sex as well as change and transformation.

Scorpio is a water sign like Cancer and Pisces with several big differences. Scorpio is considered the most intense sign of the zodiac and can be overly sensitive, brooding, mysterious, emotional and sexual. You have heard of Scorpio’s sting if he or she is unhappy and Scorpio is not afraid to use it. Scorpio can suffer from fits of jealousy at times unless they are highly evolved. Even if they are evolved they can still struggle with the green eyed monster. On the other hand, Scorpio can be a loyal friend and trusted companion if you can ever break down their barriers get to know them well enough.

Words that describe Scorpio are brooding, self-contained, secretive, ambitious, deep, dark, determined, loyal, jealous, resentful, stubborn, controlling and transformative. Some Scorpios are evolved and highly enlightened.

Each sign is connected to a planet or planets, and in this case Scorpio is connected to both Mars and Pluto. Mars is considered the planet of action and sex, and sex is something that Scorpio tends to be focused on with a laser like focus. Pluto is the planet of change and transformation or rebirth, and in a lifetime Scorpio can typically reinvent themselves many times. If you are looking to reinvent something; say your makeup, hair, reputation, career choice, or anything else, there will be no time like the Scorpio season. No one likes a comeback better than Scorpio and no one can do a comeback better than Scorpio.

Scorpio is the detective or investigator of the zodiac and turning up facts or unknown information is something that Scorpio can excel at. Scorpio takes little at face value and is always digging and searching for the truth and deeper meaning.

During the Scorpio season we must guard against paranoia, and very little will seem shallow at this time. Scorpio’s best qualities can become their worst qualities when it comes to trust and openness. Trust must be something earned for Scorpio and only after trust has been established can openness become a priority. Once trust is established however, you can have a friend for life, or until you do something to prove you are not worthy of the friendship. If this becomes the case you will be a persona non grata for life.

We all have Scorpio somewhere in our chart even if we were not born under this sign.  Now will be the time to discover, find out and act on what our true desires really are.  The greatest thing Scorpio can teach us is that sometimes we must overcome fearfulness to reach a state of truth and honesty. It is not the superficial feelings and situations that bring us the greatest happiness in life but those with depth and complexity that can bring us the greatest challenge, and in the end the greatest happiness.

 

 

Lunar eclipse Super Moon in Pisces September 17th

 

The September lunar eclipse at 25 degrees of Pisces falls on September 18th. This is the first of our fall pair of eclipses. The rulers of Pisces are Jupiter and Neptune and Pisces rules the12th house of the zodiac which coincides with endings, secrecy, things that are secret and hidden, places of seclusion and prisons.

Neptune is the planet related to dreams and visions, creativity, religion, philosophy, drugs and addictions and lies or misinformation to name a few. Neptune transits can be times that you can soar to the sublime or sink to the lowest depths; it is truly a double edge sword.

Eclipses are like wildcards and can bring good events or negative ones, depending on what it aspects in your personal chart. An eclipse is often dramatic if it aspects a significant point in your own chart, and can present news pertaining to some of life's most significant events. The energy of an eclipse can last for months and in some cases years depending on its strength

Unexpected information frequently comes to light and at this time something may be eclipsed completely out of your life, or into your life. The energy of an eclipse begins in the weeks before the eclipse and lingers for at least a month if not much longer. The energy of an eclipse may be triggered by another planet at that same degree. A solar eclipse is like a super charged New Moon, and a lunar eclipse is like a supercharged full moon and this eclipse is a Super Moon.

Super moons appear closer to the earth and are associated with earth and weather related disasters such as tsunamis, earthquakes and other types of natural disasters. Astrologer Richard Noell coined the term ‘Super moon,’ and describes it as ‘a perigee-syzygy, a new or full moon (syzygy) which occurs when the Moon is at 90% or greater of its mean closest approach to Earth (perigee).’

The Pisces Full Moon/eclipse is ruled by Jupiter and Neptune. This moon conjuncts Neptune, the planet of spirituality, creativity, the collective and individual consciousness or unconscious feelings. Neptune is also the planet of lies, illusion, drugs and deception so it is truly a double edged sword.

This eclipse will sextile Uranus which is a positive aspect and prone toward unexpected things happening-for the good! We may decide to look at things differently or find new solutions to old problems. Freedom will be a theme, but it may also seem easier to come by at this time.

The moon also conjuncts Neptune in Pisces. On the upside this is creative and intuitive or even prone toward compassion. On the downside this can create confusion and lethargy. Your perception of things may be skewed, or someone may misrepresent something. Pay attention to details over the next few days and postpone important meetings or decisions for a few days if possible. If not, make sure you understand what is really happening.

Be careful about what you believe or put your faith in at this time if it seems sketchy. You may be prone to self doubt and confusion and have to sift through the facts to keep everything straight.

In the US chart this moon opposes Neptune in the 9^th house and squares Mars. The 9^th house rules courts, laws and foreigners/foreign countries. Mars is in the 7^th house of open enemies. This looks like information that could concern laws and courts along with those considered enemies to the Republic. It also looks like misinformation that could come from abroad from US enemies, and we know for certain this is happening. We could also see water related weather situations at or around this eclipse.

Lastly, it appears that Covid is increasing in certain areas of the country. While I am not predicting a return to pandemic levels, Pisces/Neptune is associated with viruses and the potential exists the spread could increase at this time so use care.

September 1st Pluto enters Capricorn; The Grand Finale

 

Pluto re-enters Capricorn September 1^st, one more time before leaving for Aquarius again November 19th where it will remain in this sign until January of 2044.

When Pluto changes signs, the world changes along with our personal lives since Pluto moves to a different segment of your personal chart. Remember all of the changes in 2008-09? Pluto moved from Sagittarius, an expansive sign, to Capricorn, which can be expansive for some and restrictive for many others as evidenced by the almost immediate banking crisis. During this time some lost almost everything while others profited.

Capricorn can represent great wealth or great privation. At this juncture you can see the mega wealth it has created for some such as Elon Musk. He acquired the greater part of his wealth at the age of 41 when he debuted on Forbes list of billionaires in 2012. According to Inequality.org the wealth of billionaires has increased 88% over the past 4 years. The wealth of average Americans between 2019-22 was up a modest 23%. So, you can see that Pluto/Capricorn has a top-down affect somewhat like ‘trickle down economics.’

 Pluto in Capricorn brought us the 2008 crash referred to as ‘the Great recession,’ Covid, mega companies that exert a great deal of control, various power imbalances, patriarchy, fewer women’s rights, the rise of autocratic groups around the world, hate groups, Donald Trump and the MAGA movement  to name only a few occurrences.

This is not to say everything in Capricorn has been negative because many people have experienced positive times especially if their chart aligns well with Capricorn. There is always the good and the bad, but many people have been deeply challenged in various ways especially those born under Cancer, Capricorn, Libra and Aries and the US is a Cancer country.  Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, and there is a reason Saturn is called the taskmaster.

When Pluto opposed the US Sun at 13 degrees it brought us Donald Trump, who was subsequently twice impeached. The Trump years have brought about more division and hatred in the US than any President in the lifetime of anyone reading this expects perhaps Herbert Hoover and you would have to be approaching 100 years old if you lived through this period. Pluto rules, among other things corruption, dictators, tyrants, villains and unabated power. Pluto is not inherently corrupt, but it is always associated with power. How the power is used is another story depending on the individual. Pluto/Capricorn has also brought geo-political changes in the Middle East and other countries and at the time of this post we are closely watching 2 major wars unfold.

The last time Pluto transited Capricorn was 1762-1778 and we know that period of time was difficult and eventually changed the course of history with the American Revolution. This transit of Pluto has changed the world as well, and as Pluto enters Aquarius we will see just how much our world has changed, and will change again with Pluto in Aquarius.

For the last few years we have been experiencing the US Pluto return (in the US chart) at 27 degrees of Capricorn. Pluto returns can only happen in the chart of a country or a long time entity because it takes Pluto 248 years to orbit the zodiac. It won’t return to this sign until 2272. Pluto in the US chart is about money, power, control and it can represent many different things, but it lies in the US 2^nd house of money/income.

We have experienced the greater part of our Pluto return already and the results will continue to play out for better or worse. Pluto’s re-entrance into Capricorn will coincide with the last of the Pluto return.

It’s interesting the last pass of the Pluto return coincides with the US election. As a result, (partially attributed to Pluto but not entirely) I believe we can expect challenges to the election or elections across the country and the potential for fraud that will likely lie among certain states.  Unfortunately there is also a propensity toward violence on and around Election Day with Mars opposition to Pluto.

In the end, regardless of what this pass of Pluto brings us we are headed toward Aquarius. While Aquarius can be unpredictable at the end of the day we will see huge changes worldwide because Aquarius is about the people, not large corporations, billionaires, corrupt dictators or the Top 1%. It is going to be an interesting transformation and we are all invited to the party this time.

Following are the most significant dates involving the final pass of Pluto in Capricorn;

September 22/23-Venus squares Pluto-This can involve issues with money, scandals and trouble between the sexes and it can be obsessive.

October 13^th/14^th-Mercury squares Pluto-This is indicative of heavy news, obsessions and others trying to push their viewpoints.

October 17^th-Full Moon squares Pluto-This aspect becomes more complex as all aspects at this time must be considered. In the end however, the moon rules women and our emotions and its square to Pluto can be extremely dramatic and reveal information that was previously hidden. It looks pretty wild at this time.

October 21^st- Sun square Pluto-Power struggles, forced changes and total change in some way in some cases.

November 1-7th-Mars opposes Pluto-This is the worst of the transits and prone to upheaval and violence. Pluto rules sex and money as well as power struggles, bullies and corruption to name a few. Caution is needed especially if this aspects your personal chart.

If you were born under the last few degrees of the signs of Cancer, Aries, Libra or Capricorn Pluto will affect you on a personal level. Based on your Sun sign (or if your ascendant is in these degrees-signs you can expect the following.

Cancer-partner/relationship changes

Aries-career change, changes of priorities

Libra-changes in the home, family

Capricorn-personal changes/makeovers

Of course the above is all in a general sense depending on where Pluto lies from the ascendant and other aspects in your personal chart that I cannot be aware of.

Pluto will remain at 29 degrees of Capricorn this time, and this is considered a ‘critical degree.’ If you were born with your Sun sign at 29 degrees you should understand this well, because you have experienced many critical periods in your own lifetime.

When a planet is at 29 degrees is can indicate a crisis. It can also coincide with a feeling you only have so long to achieve something.

The last time Pluto was at 29 degrees of Capricorn was 1777/78. Even if you are not a student of history, you should recognize this was the American Revolution which changed the world. This gives you an understanding to how significant this period really is.
