June astrology: Saturn squares Uranus: Round 11

This month we will see the second pass of the most important astrological event of the year; Saturn square Uranus. This is a difficult if not volatile transit bringing about clashes and change on many different levels.  Saturn represents our structures and authority, as well as responsibilities and limits. We need Saturn to function in the physical/material world, and without it we would be a lost cause with no structure in life. Uranus on the other hand, represents the disruptive energies of change; often shaking things up. Uranus rules lightening, electricity, coups, explosions, explosive circumstances, the internet and all electronic communication.  Saturn-Uranus transits are disruptive and changeable, associated with stressful circumstances, clashes between the old and the new, and on the world stage this aspect is associated with tyranny, revolts, breakdowns and change.  Money and finance issues can also be associated with this aspect.

The last time Saturn and Uranus were in a harsh aspect (opposition) was 2008-2010. Uranus (unexpected events) presented a shock to our reality (Saturn) with the bank crash due to the housing bubble. Before this, Saturn squared Uranus in 2000, when we experienced the dot.com crash among other events. The first pass of this year’s transit occurred mid-February. Many things were happening at that time but one of the most significant events was the 100 year winter storm that hit Texas resulting in blackouts and an awareness of the fact that some of our electrical grids are in serious trouble and under poor management.

Unprecedented changes have been occurring across the world as a result of the Saturn-Uranus square. There is continuing political upheaval in the US, including division on whether or not to even appoint a January 6th commission to investigate the Capital attack, and Israel and Palestine are in an unsteady truce following 11 days of bombing.  Former President Donald Trump’s organization is under criminal investigation. The Colonial pipeline was hacked and paid a 4.4 million dollar ransom to get back on line. Over the weekend of May 23rd a volcanic eruption destroyed property in the eastern Congo city of Goma and left residents searching for loved ones. There will be many more significant events by the time Saturn and Uranus complete their transit in late 2022.

This aspect can affect us on a personal level as well as the world stage. We could experience a move, job change, relationship breakup or any other number of events depending on where this aspect does in your personal chart. All of this is not negative however. Sometimes projects we have worked on for a long time can come together and at other times Uranus can have a genius quality to it. There may be some difficult issues, but there will be positive advances and change mixed in with it all. Most importantly some things simply need to change.

Saturn makes three squares to Uranus this year:

-February 17th     -June 15th     -December 24

Typically we see events occurring before the transit is exact, and for weeks afterward. The energies of transits like this do not dissipate quickly and events connected with them can change things for many months or years into the future.

Take charge of the energy

If this transit does aspect something in your chart you are probably already aware of impending change. The best way to handle this energy is to look toward positive changes in the future as opposed to the negative. For example, if you work in a job that you know is ending focus on a new opportunity. If a break up occurs in your personal life, the relationship has in all likelihood has outlived its purpose, at least for the time. Review the negative and the positive and focus on improving yourself or what you could do to find a more lasting and appropriate relationship in the future. In this way, we can make this transit less stressful. Focus your energy on something positive and productive that you want to change or accomplish and set a plan to make it happen. In this way you can control your own personal destiny and direction to a far greater degree than if you don’t. Most of all, remember this aspect has occurred before and will do so again in future years so there is no reason to put life on hold, but rather stay grounded, keep your feet planted firmly in reality and focus on what you want to achieve.

Mercury is retrograde

Mercury remains retrograde in Gemini until June 22, when it turns direct at 16 degrees of Gemini. Mercury is powerful in this sign as Gemini is one of the planetary rulers of Mercury. Don’t be surprised if the energy doesn’t seem tiring, confusing or even melancholy June 5th, and during the days surrounding these dates as Mercury retrogrades in a clash with Neptune. This aspect can make us feel insecure, confused and it can produce anxiety and lack of clarity in some people. We experienced this transit May 21-22, so reoccurring themes can come up.

Retrograde Mercury is not part of a cosmic plan to upset, delay or screw things up. Rather, it is part of the natural cycle intended to be a time of reflecting and re-doing things that need our attention. Even though it can be maddening at times, if you keep this perspective you can make the most of this three week cycle that occurs 3-4 times a year. Relax as much as you can and focus on finishing up projects or fixing what needs to be fixed and you can make good use of this time.

Retrograde Mercury is not the time to buy big ticket items, get married or engaged, have plastic or elective surgery or start new projects if you can help it. If you do buy expensive items or start new projects there is a very strong chance you will not be pleased in the end, or something will change in the future.

At times information you need to proceed forward may be revealed on retrograde Mercury. This period is also associated with the past, people from the past, and even business ventures related to the past. Old clients may come back along with old friends and in rare instances old lovers. You may enjoy many lovely trips down memory lane over this next three week period.

Venus in Gemini and Mars in Cancer

Mars rules men, sex and our action and this month it moves from Cancer to Leo on June 11th. While in Cancer, Mars does not operate smoothly, and our actions are often emotionally based.

This Mars cycle will end with a bang as Mars will oppose Pluto June 5th, but this energy will start to become obvious before and after this transit is exact for roughly 10 days. This period will represent a time to be aware of what we are saying and doing at least 2 or 3 days before and after. This aspect represents a volatile type of energy that can result in outbursts, fights, arguments, power struggles and conflict with others. It is best to avoid contentious issues. If you push others, expect significant pushback. This will represent a significant few days in the news and we have the potential to see violence, threats of violence, political or financial issues and the potential of issues concerning safety and security of the collective or individuals.

Mars enters Leo

Mars enters Leo June 11th, where it will remain until July 29th.  As Leo rules the 5th house of entertainment and love we will seek more pleasure in all we do. As Mars rules our motivation we will be more expressive and feel the need to make more time for pleasure, our friends and those we love, including children. We may feel more passionate and have increased confidence during this cycle. Leo loves drama and to dress and appear as though we are playing to an audience. Guard against being overly dramatic with during this time, or you may have to deal with others who act in this manner. Drama kings and queens may well make their presence known while Mars transits through Leo, and this is the downside.

Venus is the planet of love that rules our love life, values and money. Venus moves through three signs this month. On June 2nd, Venus completes its transit in Gemini and enters Cancer.

Venus  enters Cancer

Venus in Cancer is a good placement for the planet ruling love, and this could bring deeper emotions to the surface. We will all be a bit more emotional with Venus in this sign and may feel deeper empathy and compassion with others. As Cancer is such a sensitive sign we may have to watch taking slights to heart, and they may be harder to let go of as Cancer has a long memory. This should give all water signs and especially Cancer a boost to look and feel their best.

Mars and Venus dance together in Leo

Venus enters Leo, joining Mars on June 27th.  We have officially entered summer, and some summer fun is in order over the next three weeks. Venus and Mars don’t join up very often and when they do it can present opportunities for some to meet someone special. This will work very well for all fire signs, especially Leo and Aries. It can also work well for Air signs-Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Venus will remain in Leo until July 21st. This period will be about socializing and having fun. After a year of Covid you are worth it!

June eclipse

June will bring the second of two eclipses this spring, and this is a new moon solar eclipse that falls at 19 degrees of Gemini on June 10th. Gemini is all about possibilities, adaptability, openness and different choices and communication. Mercury, the planet of communication is Gemini’s ruling planet and Mercury is retrograde. When Mercury is retrograde at the time of an eclipse it can delay events connected to the eclipse, sometimes by days or weeks.

This eclipse last occurred by degree and sign on June 10th, 2002 as solar eclipses repeat every 19 years. If you are old enough to remember this period it may give you a clue as to what you should expect during this eclipse.

Communication may be important and since Mercury is retrograde and falls next to the moon, you may feel reflective or connected to something or someone from the past.

This eclipse squares Neptune, the planet of illusion, delusion and confusion. Mercury retrograde can present problems with communication. You could feel tired and drained, melancholy or confused and unsure of your direction. If this is the case make no final determinations until the energy has passed. At times, new information can be revealed on Neptune-Mercury transits.

The positive use of this energy is compassion, creativity and spiritual insights. You could experience any of the above situations or activities along with vivid dreams and feelings of psychic insight.

This is not the best time to make important decisions as there may be unknown factors that you could discover at a later date. No matter how great something may seem, wait for the fog to pass before committing, if possible.

On the world stage we can expect more confusion, propaganda and potential untruths to be revealed. Communication issues and problems may arise. Neptune rules gas, chemical substances and water, and could see water related weather events or events at sea. In the US we can expect more news relating to racial issues and inequities and potential scandal. As Saturn and Uranus are within days of reaching their exact square we can also expect unexpected and volatile events in the US and world hotspots on and around this eclipse.

June’s second full moon

This month’s second full moon falls at 3 degrees of Capricorn on June 24th.  This is called a ‘blue moon’ as two full moons in one month only occur about every two and a half years or ‘once in a blue moon.’ Capricorn is the natural ruler of the 10th house of business and priorities. As this moon opposes the Sun in Cancer, this moon falls on the 4th/10th house axis which concerns home, family, business and we may be concerned with basic security issues.

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the plant of structure and responsibility, and for the most part, it is here our interests will lie over this full moon.

Jupiter retrogrades

Jupiter or the planet of gain and expansion turns retrograde June 20th-October 18th when it will finally turn direct again. Jupiter has moved into the sign Pisces where it will turn retrograde and remain (in Pisces) until July 29th when it retrogrades back into the sign of Aquarius.

Jupiter retrogrades every year for about four months. During this time we often have to look inward to find our growth and create our own enthusiasm. We often undergo a period of philosophic or spiritual reflection rather than focusing our efforts on the outside world. During this time we may have an opportunity to let go of destructive habits and incorrect approaches to things. As Jupiter is the seeker, a shift will occur and we will be tuned in to seeking that which is within ourselves rather than the outer world so much.

You may have been working at accomplishing something big with no real structure or plan for getting there. Jupiter’s retrograde will be the time to step back and look at the bigger picture and how you will approach things. It does not necessarily mean loss, but is more akin to working smartly and directing your actions along the most profitable and fortuitous lines. It could bring detours and a chance to correct something in the section of your chart it is transiting through.

Many things can be affected by a Jupiter retrograde. In addition to money and finances Jupiter rules courts/judiciaries, lawyers, foreigners, and foreign places, education, religion, medicine, and younger men. All of these things can shift in some way as the planet of expansion retrogrades, and we will see these matters play out in the world and our personal lives.

What retrograde Jupiter does in your personal chart/life depends on where it is located. It could retrograde through more than one area of life this year as it moves from Pisces back into Aquarius.

Neptune retrogrades

Neptune turns retrograde June 25th at 23 degrees of Pisces and will remain retrograde until December 2nd.  Neptune is typically retrograde roughly 4 and a half months out of every year. This is a subtle change, and unless you have a hard Neptune aspect in your chart, you may not even notice it.

Neptune is the planet of dreams, creativity, spirituality, illusion, drugs and alcohol, psychics and faith leaders to name a few. Neptune’s retrograde will bring about more acute sensitivity on an inner level and we may be able to pick up on those things we don't perceive when Neptune is direct. We are more likely to be listening to our own inner voice during this time and creativity and psychic or intuitive abilities may be increased.

If transiting Neptune aspects a personal planet in your chart, it is during this period we tend to become self deluding, depressed, or overly idealistic. Others may deceive us as well. It is important to be as grounded as possible during these times if you are experiencing a Neptune transit. On the other hand, it may be during this time you could discover that you have been deluding yourself and the dream dies. Should this be the case, now is the time to face the reality of the situation, grieve as necessary and make an effort to move on to new and better things. Hard Neptune transits often coincide with situations that that were not meant to be and it is at this time the rose colored glasses must come off.

We may find that an over idealized relationship, or one with someone who is really not available is just not going where we hope it is.  We may feel we have met our soul mate or the most perfect partner in the world to wake up and find things were not as we had believed, or been led to believe which leads to discouragement, depression and disenchantment. Often when Neptune retrogrades we find out that our dreams are not based on reality. This can not only affect relationships but many other areas of our lives depending on what area of the chart Neptune is transiting. If Neptune is not making a harsh transit in your personal chart, you may do a lot of inner work during this time, or become more psychic or sensitive. Dreams may be more vivid, and this transit may go by without much fanfare.

Neptune’s retrograde is not as dramatic as the most well known retrogrades involving Mercury and Venus. Neptune works in a subtle manner on the subconscious mind.

Other aspects in June:

June 3rd, Sun trine Saturn is a positive transit for accomplishment and getting things done that need to be finished. Also Venus trines Jupiter, setting the stage for pleasant social interaction, communicating with those from the past or spending time with loved ones.

June 10th, the Sun conjuncts Mercury. This can be considered somewhat willful. Egos can get in the way if you are not careful.

June 13th, Venus sextiles Uranus. This is a positive time for social activity and trying new things. If this were the only transit on this day it might be favorable for finances and financial decisions but as the Sun squares Neptune confusion may abound, and it is advisable to wait on important decisions until the fog clears.

June 21, the Sun trines Neptune. This is a positive day for anything social, love or creativity. You could feel a desire to involve yourself in a compassionate venture. Vivid dreams are common.

June 23rd, the Sun trines Jupiter. This is a cheerful, positive and hopeful transit for the day. This can help with the Venus opposition to Pluto which can be obsessive, jealous and stir up a great deal of relationship conflict, some of which could come out at this time. Venus-Pluto concerns sex, money, relationships and scandals.

Full moon lunar eclipse in Sagittarius: Pushing boundaries

The eclipse season begins with the first total lunar eclipse of the year May 26, at 5 degrees in Sagittarius. The lunar peak occurs in the morning before 7:30AM, EDT. This is a total lunar eclipse as well as a supermoon. Supermoons appear closer to the earth and are associated with tidal and seismic activity such as the recent volcanic eruption in the Congo.

Sagittarius rules the 9th house of travel, education, philosophy, publishing, religion and world view as well as foreign places and legal affairs. This eclipse falls in less than three weeks before to the Uranus-Saturn square and Mercury is almost stationary retrograde which could delay events connected to the eclipse, or cause problems in communication, travel, speaking and with young people, or all manner of glitches, revelations and breakdowns. Sagittarius is also associated with bluntness, lack of boundries and righteousness, whether deserved or not.

At the time of this eclipse, the Moon squares Jupiter. While this is pleasant most of the time, things can be blown out of proportion, or we could see or hear news of foreign people, lawyers, and lawsuits, and politics. In the US, we should expect unexpected events as this eclipse opposes Uranus in the US chart, and the mood of the population will be stirred up. This eclipse could affect communication of all types.

Mars trines Neptune, which will represent a creative and compassionate energy that will go a long way toward changing or calming matters. Compassionate action will make itself seen and heard during this time on the world stage and in our lives.

Venus has entered its square to Neptune and this represents a double edged sword. This can manifest as creativity, soft lights and reverie, but it is advisable to use caution in all of your dealings especially relating to love and money. Romance may be on the horizon, but don’t believe everything you hear, rather let a few days go by before coming to solid confusions, and this does not favor clear financial transactions that may turn out differently than planned.

For some this may be a spiritual, creative and compassionate moon as it squares Neptune. You could have vivid dreams and psychic experiences or feel very creative.

Sagittarius is a fun loving sign prone to adventures. There will be a desire for expansion on some level, so enjoy the optimism this sign often confers, but keep your boundaries realistic. The energies of this moon will lead up to the solar eclipse in Gemini June 10th.

Mercury retrogrades May 29th: Sifting through fog!

The Messenger of the Gods, otherwise known as Mercury, the planet ruling communication of all kinds turns retrograde May 29th until June 22.  Because this retrograde occurs in Gemini, one of Mercury’s ruling signs, this will have a greater affect than other past retrogrades.

Mercury will square Neptune for the first time May 22-23rd, which is a transit fraught with confusion, lack of clarity and misinformation. Although Mercury has not yet turned retrograde, this may seem like the kick off to the retrograde. Mercury will move a couple more degrees by May 26th, but it still squares Neptune. When it does turn retrograde May 29th (at 6:34PM, EDT) the real confusion and lack of clarity will begin, so it is important to pay attention to what is going on.

Make a mental note of what happens May 21st-23rd, on the first pass of Mercury’s square to Neptune, because the 2nd pass occurs June 4th-6th. You may see reoccurring themes at this time from earlier, and there will be a third pass of this confusing aspect July 6th after Mercury is direct. Sometimes Mercury-Neptune transits can be related to water related weather conditions, or if you visit the beach, lakes or some other shore, use caution. This can also cause melancholy or anxiety and there can be a tendency to look at things from the worst possible scenario, or alternatively you could make an unrealistic assessment of things. This will be a key time to keep your feet planted firmly on the ground. We will hear many confusing stories and scenarios and it can be a transit of propaganda!

Retrograde Mercury is not part of a cosmic plan to upset, delay or screw things up. Rather, this is part of the natural cycle intended to be a time of reflecting and re-doing things that need our attention.

If you do buy expensive items or start new projects there is a very strong chance you will not be pleased, or something will change in the future.

At times information you need to proceed forward may be revealed on retrograde Mercury. This period is also associated with the past, people from the past, and even business ventures related to the past. Old clients may come back along with old friends and in rare instances old lovers. Of course, exes are usually exes for a reason, but not every case. You may enjoy many lovely trips down memory lane over this next three week period.

Patience may be required during this retrograde period for the best results. Don’t make a rush to judgment as you may regret it later. Machinery, cars, coffee pots and washing machines (among other things) may break down but if this is the case there was a problem with it anyway. Communication may slow down along with sales or other things. Pay attention to your communication, and take nothing for granted in terms of expecting others to know or not know what you are doing. In the long run there is a point to all of this, and you may not even know the point until after Mercury turns direct. If delays occur there may be a greater purpose to it than what you know in the moment. It’s not a bad idea to keep notes or a diary as to what happens during the retrograde. When it is over, you may see many things in a different light than what you did before the retrograde.

The planet of luck enters Pisces!

May 13th, the planet ruling our gain and luck enters the sign Pisces where it will remain through July 28th before it retrogrades back into Aquarius where it will spend the rest of the year. This will give us a chance to dip our toes into the Neptunian/Pisces energy which will be a significant change from Jupiter in Aquarius.  Pisces is one of the signs of Jupiter’s rulership, which means Jupiter will operate with ease in this sign. During Jupiter’s transit through Pisces, its annual retrograde will begin June 20th, and it will not turn direct again until October 18th when it is back in Aquarius. When retrograde, Jupiter’s positive energies may be diminished some but they are still active. Pisces is associated with the 12th house of the zodiac or the last sign/house. This can be associated with endings, and dealing with things that are buried or lie beneath the surface that may come to our attention.

Jupiter last transited through Pisces January 2010-January 2011. During this time the Deepwater Horizon oil spill occurred, along with the Arab Spring upheaval, which changed the Middle East. Jupiter was not the only planet involved in these major occurrences but it still played a role in bringing a great deal of information to the surface that had been heretofore unknown. And of course the Horizon oil spill was underneath the surface.

Jupiter in Pisces is related to creativity, spirituality, creative expression, compassion and intuition on the positive end. Faith and optimism may make a great comeback at this time. The sign Pisces is associated with Jupiter, its ancient ruler and also its modern ruler which is Neptune. While Jupiter is expansive and typically positive,  Neptune is the planet of illusion, delusion and confusion, as well as psychic abilities, religion, theatre and the arts, the ocean and drugs, alcohol, drugs and lies or misinterpretations of the facts.  During Jupiter’s retrograde period in Pisces we must guard against self-deception, sacrificing ones happiness for the whim of others, and looking at things through too-rosy glasses.

Jupiter is also associated with the 9th house of ideas, travel, education, publishing, world view and religious or philosophical viewpoints so there will be a great deal of focus or expansion in these areas as well. Our personal world views may expand during this time along with a potential yearning for travel and faraway places.

While Jupiter in Aquarius is about new ways of approaching things, brotherhood and equality, Jupiter in Pisces will be about healing, compassion and the roles of those who help and serve will be amplified. Romance may make a comeback along with the finer more gentle qualities associated with love and romance.

As Pisces is connected to drugs and addictions of all types which for some could be amplified along with a desire for redemption on many different levels. Psychics, dreams and spiritualism, mediumship, astrology and other esoteric arts will prosper and become more widespread as people search for answers.

Pisces/Neptune can also be associated with those who have the least. Don’t be surprised if we don’t see the humanitarian crisis at the US border (and other borders) expand, just as did when Neptune entered Pisces in 2011. If this is the case, the humanitarian efforts and search for solutions will expand as well.

May astrology: Change is imminent!

We have experienced an unusual 9 week period that began late February and lasted through the first three weeks of April where we have had no retrograde planets and everything was full steam ahead. That began to change April 27th with Pluto’s retrograde and it will be followed by Saturn’s retrograde on May 23rd, and Mercury on May 29th.

The planet of luck and gain, or Jupiter, changes signs May 14th when it enters Pisces for the next two and a half months, changing what and how we expand our lives. This will give us a taste of what 2022 will ultimately bring when Jupiter remains in Pisces most of the year.

May is the start of the spring eclipse season and we will experience our first lunar eclipse of the year on May 26th, at 6 degrees of Sagittarius, preceded by a pleasant New Moon in Taurus May 11th

During May, the Sun transits through Taurus and then Gemini. Mercury, the planet ruling communication enters Gemini May 3rd, and then turns retrograde on May 29th for the next three weeks.

The planet of action or Mars, travels through Cancer all month, tying our actions to our emotions and putting a focus on home, real estate and family.

Jupiter enters Pisces May 13th

May 13th, the planet ruling our gain and luck enters the sign Pisces where it will remain through July 28th.  At that point it will retrograde back into Aquarius where it will spend the rest of the year. This will give us a chance to dip our toes into the Neptunian Pisces energy which will be a big change from Aquarius.  Pisces is one of the signs of Jupiter’s rulership, which means actions that play out relating to Jupiter are likely to be positive and Jupiter will operate with ease in this sign. During Jupiter’s transit through Pisces, its annual retrograde will begin June 20th, and it will not turn direct until October 18th when it is back in Aquarius. When retrograde, Jupiter’s positive energies may be diminished some but they are still active.

Jupiter in Pisces is related to creativity, spirituality, creative expression, compassion and intuition. The sign Pisces is associated with Jupiter, its ancient ruler and also its modern ruler, Neptune. While Jupiter is expansive and typically positive,  Neptune is the planet of illusion, delusion and confusion, as well as psychic abilities, religion, theatre and the arts, the ocean and drugs, alcohol and delusion and lies.  During Jupiter’s retrograde period in Pisces we must guard against self-deception, sacrificing ones happiness for the whim of others, and looking at things through too-rosy glasses.

Jupiter is also associated with the 9th house of travel, education, publishing, world view and religious or philosophical viewpoints so there will be a great deal of focus or expansion in these areas.

Jupiter in Aquarius is about new ways of approaching things, brotherhood and equality, Jupiter in Pisces will be about healing, compassion and the roles of those who help and serve will be amplified. Romance may make a comeback with Jupiter in Pisces along with the finer more gentle qualities associated with love and romance.

Pisces is connected to drugs and addictions of all types which for some could be amplified along with a desire for redemption. Pisces/Neptune can also be associated with those who have the least. Don’t be surprised if we don’t see the humanitarian crisis at the US border (and other borders) expand, just as it has since Neptune entered Pisces in 2011. If this is the case, the humanitarian efforts and search for solutions will expand as well.

Uranus’s square to Saturn

During May, Uranus and Saturn approach their second harsh square to each other which will bring about a great deal of change in the world, and in our lives and some of it will be unexpected.  While this transit is not exact until mid-June, events connected to this aspect will begin to play out in May, in particular the second half of the month. This transit is the most significant aspect we experience in 2021.

Saturn-Uranus transits are associated with the transfer of wealth, often bringing recessions. Some economists believe we are in a Covid recession at this time, and if not income inequality is certainly a theme that will continue this year. This is a disruptive transit that will shake things up in many areas on the world stage and in our lives, especially if you have fixed planets: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius at 11-15 degrees. We could see civil unrest, attempted coups, earth changes and a drive for police reform among other topics. Major computer hacks, airplane crashes, terror threats, threats of war and violence are all a possibility at this time.

All is not negative however; as we are in a time when change in inevitable. We will see brilliant ideas, new inventions, social reform and potential freedom for others as well as the negative. We are already in a period where space exploration is advancing with all of the information we are acquiring about Mars.

Saturn-Uranus in 1999-2000

The last time Saturn was in a square with Uranus was 1999- 2000. The aspects occurred in July and November of 1999 and May of 2020. If you are old enough to remember these times you may have an idea what to expect this time around.

During those years euro currency was established and the European Central Bank assumed its full powers, President Clinton was impeached acquitted by the Senate, the Roth IRA is introduced, the Kosovo war occurred, Bill Gates personal fortune exceeded 100 billion, the Columbine school massacre occurred, Dow Jones exceeded 11,000 for the first time and a major flood happened in Las Vegas, In 2000, the dot com industry collapsed, AOL purchased Time-Warner, Ealian Gonzales was returned to his parent in Cuba after being rescued by the Coast Guard, Microsoft released Windows 2000, the courts ruled Microsoft violated anti-trust laws and Vermont legalized same sex civil unions. George Bush was nominated for the Presidential race along with Al Gore and Bill Clinton became the first US President to visit Vietnam. The Supreme Court overturned the ruling by the Florida Supreme Court, ending the Presidential recount and effectively giving the state and the Presidency, to Texas Governor George W. Bush in 2000 after a retracted period. Do you remember Y2K? The computers were supposed to crash leaving us in darkness, and there were people who hoarded food for months in preparation of this. These are just a few of the incidents that occurred the last time Saturn squared Uranus.

We also experienced a Saturn-Uranus square 1929-1931, and this of course represents the Great Depression. Uranus was in Taurus at this time as it is today. The ‘Dust Bowl’ was in full swing, changing agricultural practices.

Saturn-Uranus in February 2021

The first peak of this powerful square occurred earlier this year the week of February 17th. Many things occurred around the world, but one of the most significant events was the 100 year snowstorm in Texas followed by the collapse of the Texas electrical grid, and problems with the water supply. This was considered an unexpected event, with a number of deaths.

The eclipse season begins

The eclipse season begins in May this year and the first total lunar eclipse of the year occurs May 26, at 5 degrees in Sagittarius.

At the time of this eclipse, the Moon squares Jupiter. While this is pleasant most of the time, things can be blown out of proportion, or we could see or hear news of foreign people, lawyers, and lawsuits, and politics. In the US, we should expect sudden, and unexpected events, revelations and the mood of the population will be stirred up.

Mars trines Neptune, which will represent a creative and compassionate energy that will go a long way toward changing or calming matters. Compassionate action will make itself seen and heard during this time on the world stage and in our lives.

Venus squares Neptune on the day of this eclipse and this represents a double edged sword. This can manifest as creativity, dim lights and reverie, but it is advisable to use caution in all of your dealings especially relating to love and money. Romance may be on the horizon, but don’t believe everything you hear, rather let a few days go by before coming to solid confusions, and this does not favor clear financial transactions that may turn out differently than planned.

The New Moon in Taurus

May’s New Moon falls in the second sign of spring or Taurus, a time of new growth and closeness to the earth, possessions, luxury, beauty and the sensual side of living. Both the Moon and Sun sextile Neptune which will create a dreamy, creative, and sensitive aspect, with a desire to connect with others. As Taurus rules the second house in astrology we may be focused on money, possessions and issues of self worth. As this New Moon makes no harsh aspects, now is the time to enjoy the richness of Taurus and the Taurus season which changes to Gemini on May 20th with the Sun’s entrance in that sign.

Other aspects in May

May 3rd, Mercury enters Gemini and retrogrades

Thoughts and conversation will pick up speed, and be noticeably lacking in emotion as Gemini is more of an intellectual sign, and in this placement Mercury is very powerful.
Mercury rules speech, communication, conversation, travel and young people, and its retrograde begins May 29th.

People often ask if it is ok to begin new projects a few days or even a couple of weeks before the retrograde, and the answer is no, not really. Mercurial energy will start to shift during this time, and at the very least it becomes a wild card in the equation-a very wild card! Start something shortly before a retrograde and in my experience it is no different than starting it during the retrograde. The energy is already changing and starting to slow down. It is time to wrap things up!

Mercury turns stationary retrograde May 29-4th,  and this is typically when it becomes obvious the energy is changing, glitches occur and we sometimes start to find things out that were previously unknown.

Don't get married or engaged, buy electronics or big ticket items on a retrograde Mercury or start new projects. If you start a new relationship during this period it will likely not work out, but it depends on your chart. Sometimes relationships that begin on a retrograde resurface only during the next retrograde and this includes non romantic relationships as well. This time is well spent in re-doing, re-examining and re-accessing your situations, and this is the natural cycle, it just isn't always on our own personal timing.

A retrograde Mercury is often a period we can re-connect with those from our past, but it is not a guarantee. This is  a fated period in some respects. We often find things out that affect our decision making and plans that affect the future. Some relationships experience ups and downs that provide an opportunity to examine what is not working. Some relationships will end, but a retrograde Mercury alone is not enough to typically end a relationship unless it began on a retrograde which makes it more suspect.

May 8th, Venus enters Gemini

When Venus enters Gemini love energies change once again and this will be completely different from Taurus.

Venus in Gemini is concerned with conversation, ideas, truths, and it doesn't like to be too staid or bored. Venus in Gemini can be as sensual as any other sign, but you must bring conversation, adventure and fun to the picture. Manners count as does intelligence and ideas, most of all.

Venus in Gemini enjoys many different types of people and can flit from one group to another with little notice, and often expect their partner to be able to travel with them at the speed of light if necessary. Routine situations can be quite dull and boring, as are dogmatic, predictable people.

Venus here is light and airy, and there is no greater turn off for those with Venus in this sign than people who are emotionally heavy and limiting, or jealous and possessive.

Gemini is associated with the third house of the zodiac which rules communications, sales, writing ability, media, advertising, publicity, short journeys, neighbors, and siblings. The third house is also associated with the active search for knowledge, mental energy and telepathy.

Venus in Gemini is drawn to charismatic people who have interesting things to say. Gemini likes someone who can suggest interesting, if not adventuresome dates and places to go and always has their own thoughts about what is going on.

Typically Venus-Gemini looks for friends first, and isn’t going to jump into an exclusive relationship overnight. And you will typically not want to be committed to one person unless there is an understanding between both parties. Gemini is a mutable sign, so it's subject to change. Venus in Gemini has a bad rap astrologically for being fickle. As Gemini is a changeable sign, she (or he) can change her mind, but who can't? The dark side of Venus in Gemini has the potential to leave lovers in the lurch suddenly, but I don't think there is any Venus that could be exempt from this, especially if there is a good reason. Gemini can be more changeable than some, especially if things become too intense or dull. This could of course leave some people feeling duped, which again contributes to Venus's placement here being considered fickle.

The Sun enters Gemini May 20th

Welcome to the Gemini season! The Sun in this sign now joins with Mercury and Venus in Gemini and the next month will be a lighter and more intellectual period of time. Now is the time to think about new ideas and new ways of approaching old problems. Let your mind be your guide through this season, but the time to put these ideas into practice will be when Mercury turns direct again after June 22nd.

May 23rd Saturn retrogrades

Saturn begins its annual retrograde that will last through October 11th. Saturn is currently in Aquarius, the sign that rules the collective or all of us. With the situation involving Covid-19 we are all drawn into what affects us as a collective far more than we have been in the recent past. Saturn in this sign will manifest as a time when we all find own place as individuals within the collective.

Retrograde Saturn is a time to back up and re-access the major events going on in our lives. We can make a great deal of progress during this time although it may not seem so at first glance.

As Saturn deals with our structures we may be concerned with basic security issues while Saturn is retrograde, both individually and collectively.

If Saturn turns retrograde in a harsh angle, you can expect frustration in whatever area of your life Saturn is transiting.

Saturn is our personal teacher that rules our reality, structure, maturity and responsibility. During its retrograde this is a good time to shore up areas of your life that need new structure. It could be in the area of finances, work or even relationships.

Whatever area Saturn is transiting in your personal chart may need extra work as Saturn retrogrades through it. The lessons you learn at this time may be difficult and it can be a time of greater anxiety, fear or even sadness. If this is the case Saturn’s retrograde will be a time to confront these issues and focus on a workable solution.

May 3rd-Mercury squares Jupiter and the Sun squares Saturn. Mercury-Jupiter is an expansive transit although things can get blown out of proportion. The sun’s square to Saturn is typically a serious if not depressing or draining influence. Ideas may come quickly on this day but action may be delayed or slow.
