September; Saturn squares Uranus and Mercury retrogrades

We have been dealing with the Saturn-Uranus square for going on two years now, and during September and October we will see these planets square off again creating disruption through at least the end of November. Both Saturn and Uranus are retrograde which typically present us with the most challenging times as opposed to both planets being direct.

Saturn comes within 1 degree of Uranus in September which is the fourth and final square or clash so we can expect changeability and unexpected events especially as we approach mid to late September. In October, Saturn and Uranus will square off at 18 degrees for the first 12 days of the month and we can expect it to be intense.

A square between two planets represents change, but it is often not easy.  Saturn in astrology rules our structures and Uranus is the planet of sudden and unpredictable events. The Saturn archetype represents true reality and is associated with security, restrictions, the law, organization, control and government. It represents the State and its legal system and all conservative bodies. It also represents authority, tradition and time.

The Uranus archetype represents the need for change and freedom, originality and independence to go about things differently. It stimulates innovation, brilliance and genius. It is associated with coups, earthquakes, aircraft and spacecraft and is considered disruptive in a hard aspect, which it is. Uranus is often involved in separations, divorce, and other events and while in Taurus it is associated with love, money, food and food production, the Earth and personal as well as societal values and events.

When Saturn and Uranus clash it becomes an inevitable collision between the new and the old and change or disruption becomes unavoidable.  Most of the time however, when Uranus is involved, change was needed and will ultimately lead to a better solution. Sometimes however, change comes suddenly and can be disorienting for a while.

What this aspect does in your own life depends on where Saturn and Uranus fall in your own personal chart. Since this affects the world we are all a part of it but you will be affected to a greater degree if you have fixed planets (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius at 16-20 degrees) in your chart. If you don’t know, it is advisable to look online, or of course you can call an astrologer who knows!

The energy of this final square will go into November before it begins to fade. The results however, can play out for a long period of time and bring lasting consequences.

Venus enters Virgo

Venus enters Virgo September 5th and will remain in this sign until September 29th. Venus in Virgo energy brings wisdom, calm and discerning energies to the picture which will be considerably different from flamboyant Venus in Leo we are leaving behind for another year.

Venus is the goddess of love, values and money and is considered ‘at its fall.’  In Virgo which means the energies of Venus and Virgo are not especially compatible. That does not mean this sign is bad or negative, but the energy does not operate as smoothly as it does in say, Libra where it is where it is considered to be ‘at home.’ Virgo can be a very warm, caring, solid and empathic energy, and every sign has its good points and darker side.

The shadow side of this sign is being overly picky or demanding and we can come across to others like this if we are not aware. You may feel as though you are trying to help others help themselves but your desire to help may not be wanted or misunderstood. Therefore it is important to remember during Virgo’s transit most will ask for help if they feel they need it. Hurt feelings or separation can arise if Virgo’s critical nature gets the upper hand.

While Venus is in Virgo we will show our love in more practical ways. For example, rather than wining and dining our love interest we will approach things in a more down to earth manner such as helping with a move, running errands, taking the dog to be groomed or anything of this nature that makes love and affection more real and tangible. Virgo thrives when they are of service to others in some way.

Venus in Virgo can be a great helpmate, loyal friend or lover and you may feel in no rush to begin a mad, passionate affair but rather go more slowly getting to know the true nature and personality of your love interest as Virgo is cautious and seldom jumps into a wild fling just for the excitement.

With Venus in Virgo we become much more interested in the how and whys of a relationship.  Rather than a fiery, whirlwind courtship that may end as dramatically as it began, Venus in Virgo is the time to look at what makes you and others really tick and Virgo puts a high value on things that last. Practicality is a valuable asset of Virgo and can go a long way in terms of making things real, secure and lasting.

Venus-Virgo is typically warm, giving and interested. Red hot passion may not be the first item on the agenda but passion may well end up being the end result once Virgo determines someone is really worth their time and capable of showing stability. Virgo projects a very earthy and natural type of passion, when they feel they are in the right relationship.

Mercury turns retrograde

Mercury turns retrograde September 10th-October 2nd joining the five outer plants in their retrogrades. This time it will retrograde through two signs; Libra and Virgo. Mercury is at 8 degrees of Libra when the planet of communication turns stationary retrograde in September. This means the energy is changing as the planet prepares to shift and move backward. Actually, the planet only appears to move backward in an optical illusion but the retrograde energy is real. As the planet ‘stations’ September 10-14th, energy changes and we will experience the obvious Mercurial shift in energy at this time. The stationary retrograde and stationary direct periods are generally the worst times of the retrograde.

What does Mercury do?

Mercury rules all kinds of communication, verbal and written, speaking, learning, even listening and thinking, as well as all forms of electronic communication. It rules formal agreements and contracts, buying and selling, travel, transportation, and shipping. It rules pets and young people.

 What to expect

Communication can break down, slow down, or stop altogether. People can become confused; change their minds, job interviews can slow down, and things, projects and people can change their course of direction, sometimes unexpectedly. Equipment can breakdown, whether it is a computer, a coffee pot or a car. It is hard to get decisions from others, and if you do, they could change their mind after Mercury turns direct. New information about important matters often comes to light during this cycle.

 Mercury in Libra

As Mercury retrogrades in Libra issues will arise concerning relationships, partnerships and marriage. We will seek greater harmony in relationships and focus on whether the relationship is working and if our needs are being met.  If you don’t currently have a relationship, you may think about it more during this part of the retrograde. If you are in a bad relationship it could end. At times, we can reconnect with those from the past whether it is an old lover, business associate, friend or acquaintance. We may also go back to things that we began in the past.

Mercury retrograde in Virgo

September 24th, Mercury retrogrades back into Virgo where it will spend the rest of the retrograde. Mercury in Virgo will be more focused on work and health. Since Mercury is the ruler of Virgo, thinking may not quite be up to par, and issues could come up relating to work or health, so if this is the case it could be time for a checkup.

Mercury in Virgo is discerning and focused on details, although this could be a little problematic with Mercury retrograde. While Mercury is in this sign the potential exists for missed deadlines, delays, or issues with communication on a professional level or you may have to focus more on day to day activities.

And then there is the well known Virgo tendency to be too critical. Issues here can crop up and you could come across as being ‘critical’, as opposed to offering ‘constructive criticism,’ You may feel that others are treating you in this manner and you could do the same, so it will be important to be aware of how we come across to others while Mercury moves through Virgo.

 What to Expect

First of all, Retrograde Mercury can be a time of reconnecting with those from the past in some instances. This does not mean reconnect to a former, toxic relationship, but reconnect with those who have been tried and true. Go back to the things from the past that have served you well and reconnect. You could hear from relatives, old friends and on occasion old loves. You could experience pleasant trips down memory lane. It’s time to take care of those things you have put off, and clear your closets, both literally and figuratively. It is a time of finishing up old projects as opposed to starting new ones, and re-accessing, reviewing and redesigning our lives and work.

What not to do and avoid

Don't make important changes such as starting a new job or project if possible, launching a website, buying big ticket items, closing on real estate, buying electronic equipment, getting married or engaged, having elective or cosmetic surgery, launching new endeavors, signing contracts or even choosing paint colors! Of course, there are some exceptions: Let's say you need a job and one comes up during the retrograde. Don't turn it down, as a job on a retrograde is better than no job. Things may change after you begin. For example, there could be a shift in the direction of the job, or you may not have understood the nature of the job, or it may not last forever. If you have to have surgery under a doctor’s orders, go ahead. Surgeries are performed successfully every day of the year, and retrograde Mercury can be about correcting something. If you have to sign a lease or another document, ask a lot of questions. Go over things several times, and enlist the judgment of those you trust.

 What to do

This is the time to stop, look, and listen to our inner voice, so that you may move forward with clarity and confidence when Mercury turns direct again. It is a time of personal realignment with the world and realignment in our own world. You may reach a sense of completion with something by the time this cycle ends.

Just like the crab that moves sideways, sometimes we have to take this approach and move sideways before we can really move forward. This is just part of the natural flow. Rewrite, rework, rethink and do anything that begins with re !

Mercury turns direct and its shadow period

Mercury turns direct October 2nd, and while this is good news we are not really out of the woods yet. Remember, the ‘stationary’ periods are typically the worst for delays and glitches, and sometimes new information is revealed and things can change again at this time. The ‘stationary direct’ period in this case is October 2-5th. After this things shift more toward normal and between October 5th through the 16th. Mercury goes through its post retrograde shadow period where things slowly return to normal. By October 17th it’s full steam ahead once again.

Significant dates

Mercury opposes Neptune August 21st, and is within orb, or very closes again September 30-October 5th.  This aspect creates confusion, lack of clarity and tiredness or melancholy. The September 30-October 5th period will be the worst.

Mercury opposes Jupiter September 2nd and again September 18th and October 12th. While this is generally considered positive, things can get blown out of proportion.

Pisces full moon

This month’s full moon falls in the sign of Pisces and this is the last full moon of the summer, and the same day Mercury retrogrades. With retrograde Mercury on a full moon sometimes events connected with the full moon can be delayed, usually by only a matter of a few days.  Ironically, or not, Pisces represents the last house of the zodiac which has to do with endings as we enjoy the last few weeks before fall.

Pisces rules the 12th house which represents things that are hidden such as spirituality and the subconscious mind, and Pisces is a healing and spiritual sign. It rules medicine, theater and film, art and the creative, psychic and spiritual world as well as our own and the collective receptivity. Most importantly this sign rules compassion, something the world is in dire need of at this time.

The Moon sextiles Uranus which can give the energy an uplifting feeling along with a desire to tryout some new ideas or concepts. It will also conjunct Neptune which can be dreamy and uplifting, or alternatively confusing with very little clarity so this is not the best time to make important decisions. This is a moon to go with the flow on as Pisces is mutable and always shifting and changing. Don’t be surprised if your dreams aren’t more vivid than usual.

Fall solstice is here

September 22nd, the Sun enters Libra and this is the fall solstice which arrives at 9:04 PM, EDT ushering in the Libra season!

On this day, the Sun conjuncts Mercury. With this transit we can expect a great deal of communication whether it is by phone, email or in person. As the Sun rules the ego, this aspect can come across as others acting in a willful manner, and egos can come into play as can restlessness and irritation.

Libra is the sign that rules the 7th house of marriage, partnerships and courts and Libra’s ruling planet is Venus. Venus is concerned with money, beauty, love and values and our energies will be focused on relationships and others during this time, or alternatively you could meet someone new that becomes significant with the Sun in Libra.

Make plans to socialize to the extant you can but don’t overbook yourself and then flake out. This can be the downside of Libra along with procrastination. Libra can get so caught up in the pursuit of fairness, justice and looking at things from a detached angle they sometimes never get where they want to go by over thinking every point of view they encounter.

Since Libra is an Air sign thoughts and ideas at this time will be large, and somewhat detached. Air signs are the thinkers and initiators, and don’t like to slow down most of the time. This will be amplified because of Mar’s transit through Gemini, so our actions during this season will come as a result of ideas.

Libra does not like arguments, ugly comments, sordid situations or cruelty. The big clash you were expecting to have with your new boss or your best friend about the way things are going may no longer seem so important after all. With Libra, people want to feel the love most of all.

You may find yourself getting more annoyed with anything that does not contribute to your own personal harmony, and may want to eliminate those who create drama or trauma in your life. The Libra season will be time to take a look at who is in your life, why they are there, and whether your own needs are being fulfilled in the important relationships in your life.

Venus enters Libra

The planet that rules money, values and love enters Libra August 29th where it will remain until October 23rd.  Venus in Libra is considered ‘at home,’ and very powerful. Venus is actually ruled by two signs-Taurus and Libra. Venus has been considered at its fall in Virgo, which means Venusian energy does not operate smoothly or at its best, so we can expect a major energy shift for the better.

Relationships of all types may seem lighter, happier and people will be more inclined to keep the peace rather than arguing, being critical, or bringing up deep seated issues. This sign is much more relationship and partner oriented. Rude, crude or abrasive behavior will be a real turn off for most people with Venus in Libra.

As this placement affect us all, social justice will likely become front and center with Venus in Libra, and we could see a little more compromise and desire to cooperate. Women’s issues may also be forefront with this placement.

Venus in Libra likes style and attractiveness. Now is the time to improve your wardrobe, hairstyle or anything else you feel is not up to par. Libra is drawn to beauty and it could be hard to stay on a budget if you see something that grabs your eye!

Venus in Libra is a Cardinal Air sign which predisposes a logical nature, and Cardinal signs don’t slack off. Being an Air sign, Libra likes conversation, intelligence and those who can communicate their feelings and aren’t afraid to do so. Venus in this sign is romantic, soft and likes situations that are pleasing to the senses and the intellect.

With Venus in Libra you could have a problem making up your mind about something. As this is a sign concerned with justice and fairness sometimes it may be hard to come to a concrete conclusion because of a tendency to look at all sides of the issue. This sign can also procrastinate. Equality between partners is forefront on the minds of those with Venus in Libra. At times you may compromise rather than rock the boat.

The Virgo New moon may be rough

The August New Moon falls at 4 degrees of Virgo on August 27th and it is the final New Moon of the summer. Virgo rules the 6th house of work and health and its ruler is Mercury the planet of communication.

Both the Sun and Moon square, or clash with Mars, so this may not be the most laid back energy and things can go awry at this time. By being aware of the energy you are more likely to be able to avoid verbal or emotional confrontations with others or even yourself. Moon-Mars relates to upset or unstable emotions and confrontations with women, and Sun-Mars can create issues with men, or someone’s ego can get out of control pretty fast.

Since the planets involved are all mutable, this energy can take many different directions, sometimes at once so it doesn’t have to turn negative. Examples of a positive use of this energy could include exercise, gardening, work, or activities that keep you busy.

Virgo can be a bit of a nitpicker which often does not go well, but Virgo energy can give us the ability to discern what is going on with ourselves and others to make correct choices.

While the potential for emotional and mental upheaval exists with this Moon, so does the energy to focus on more productive activities and projects, especially those concerning physical movement (hiking, swimming, gardening, sex, cleaning out the garage) or any daily routine we may need to fine tune.

Since Virgo is the natural ruler of the 6th house of health, now is the time to begin a diet or exercise program or set wellness goals that can improve your life. Pets may also come into focus as they are also under the domain of the 6th house in astrology.

Mercury, the planet of communication opposes Jupiter, so we can expect a great deal of communication and mental activity. This is typically a pleasant transit although something could get blown out of proportion, or promises could be overblown or impossible to meet.

The other significant aspect is value and love oriented Venus’s opposition to Saturn; the taskmaster. This could bring up the potential for serious revelations concerning relationships or money that could be problematic at this time.

We may be forced to stand up for ourselves in some way or feel as though we have to prove our value or ideas to others. Add to this the emotionally charged and impulsive Sun-Moon square to Mars and we have a recipe that could turn ugly and impulsive are not aware of the energy.

A New Moon typically coincides with new starts or new beginnings in some way. By channeling Virgo’s sensibility, practicality and common sense we can avoid negative issues and focus on what Virgo really calls for; reevaluating our day to day lives, and improving our focus, energy level and efficiency.

Uranus retrogrades and squares Saturn; Round 4

Uranus, the planet of unexpected events, rebellion and revolution begins its yearly retrograde August 24th- January 22, 2023. Uranus retrogrades every year for about 5 months, but not to worry, this is nothing like retrograde Mercury that can create chaos, communication problems and general disruption. This year Uranus’s retrograde will become part of the powerful Uranus-Saturn square that has dominated the skies for the past several years.

Unless you have a Uranus transit aspecting your personal chart, you may hardly even notice it, although the retrograde of this planet often coincides with significant world events that can happen on a large scale. Uranus is in Taurus, a sign it does not do well in and affects us collectively and personally in terms of money, values, food production/farming and our love lives.

The retrograde of Uranus is associated with inner change as opposed to outer changes in your life. We tend to make inner change during this time that will allow us more success in the outside world when the planet turns direct. The retrograde period can usher in more self awareness and ability to understand issues on a deeper level and it is typically easier to face any changes we need to make at this time. If you have been struggling in some way this may give you an opportunity to begin to heal and look for original solutions to standing problems as Uranus is the most innovative of planets.

Uranus is associated with freedom, often ‘freedom at any cost.’ This is why Uranus is associated with break ups, breaking free of things we find oppressive and divorce. This typically only occurs however, if Uranus is making a specific harsh aspect in your own chart or the chart of the person you are involved with.

As Uranus begins its retrograde this year it will move closer to its square or clash with Saturn that we have experienced since early 2021. Uranus square Saturn is an intense transit prone to unexpected events that will affect the collective and us personally.  The peak period is mid-September through mid-October. While the results may play out for some time, this will be the final clash between these planets for years to come.

While the Saturn-Uranus square affects us all, it will have a significant affect on everyone who has fixed planets (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) at 16-20 degrees, or those born under these signs. For Taurus the changes will be work or priorities. Leo will experience shakeups in partnerships and marriage and for Scorpio relationships, marriage and home life. Aquarius will experience changes that will affect them personally or change their basic foundation or home life in some way.

If major change occurs under this aspect it will ultimately be for the better, even if it doesn’t seem this way at the time. Uranus is said to clear away the ‘dead wood’ in our lives or those things that have outlived their purpose so new doors and experiences can soon present themselves.

Saturn-Uranus and the collective

In the world we can look for significant events on and around the time Uranus reverses direction and again mid September-mid October. We can expect any of the following:

-         Political upheaval

-         Market fluctuations

-         Violence

-         -possible fall wave of Covid or something else

-         Extreme weather conditions

-         Issues concerning energy, electricity, the internet

-         New technology

-         Upheaval and changes in governments around the world

-         Issues with food production

-         Unexpected issues and events

Many changes have occurred since this powerful transit began in 2020, and it is associated in the collective with anarchy, fascism, and political change and worldwide upheaval. While this is the last of this transit that will stretch into November of this year, the consequences and results may not totally play out for many months.

The Sun squares Mars and is exact August 28th, along with Venus square Uranus.  Sun-Mars transits can be volatile and aggressive in nature, and the New Moon in Virgo squares Mars on the 27th, adding more volatility and intensity to the days around Uranus’s retrograde so we can expect significant changes in the world around the time of Uranus’s retrograde and as Uranus approaches its final square to Saturn.

A guide to Mars in Gemini and Mars' retrograde

August 20th, Mars enters Gemini where it will remain until March 25th, 2023. This is an unusually long time for the planet that rules our action to spend in a sign but it will retrograde from October 30, 2022-January 12, 2023, and then it will repeat almost the entire Mars cycle that occurred in the fall all over again. Below are the most important dates to be aware of during Mars long cycle in this sign:

-Mars enters Gemini August 20th, 2022

-Mars enters its retrograde ‘shadow’ period September 3rd, 2022

-Mars turns retrograde October 30th, 2022

-Mars is in mutual reception with Mercury October 29-November 17th, 2022

-Mars squares Neptune October 11-15th, November 19-22nd, and March 15-18th, 2023

-Mars stations to turn direct January 12, 2023

-Mars leaves its post retrograde ‘shadow’ March 15th. 2023

-Mars leaves Gemini and enters Cancer March 25, 2023

Mars rules our action, desire and energy and Gemini is the sign ruling communication. All forms of communication will become more important, more assertive and there is a good chance we will say exactly what is on our minds. Our minds as well as our communication with others will be on fire for the next 7 months and be our greatest asset as well as our biggest problem if we are not aware of the pitfalls. That said, with some understanding of how the sign works, it can be a time of excitement, bright ideas and an invigorating if not fun period of time.

Gemini rules the third house of the zodiac which is concerned with short trips, immediate family members and co-workers as well as our neighborhood or the area where we reside. Gemini is a mutable Air sign. Air signs are intellectual as opposed to emotional and mutable signs are very changeable, so we can expect to view things from a more detached viewpoint and change our minds often. Mars-Gemini loves a fast paced environment with much coming and going so we can expect to be quite busy.

Gemini seldom moves in a straight line and likes to multi-task. People born with Mars in this sign may often do many things at once. They may drop one project to pick up another, because they know that in time they will come back around to it. Also, Gemini likes variety and since they don’t always operate in a linear fashion this is why they are sometimes considered ‘fickle,’ which most times can really be changeability due to new or different information.

Gemini is motivated by ideas and information, especially taking in information, and they frequently alter their course when new or better information comes to light. Gemini is not afraid of change and they typically welcome it since their minds grasp things so quickly.

The worst thing for a Gemini is to be bored. When bored with a task or project Gemini will have a hard time completing it, which can be a failing of Mars in this sign. The greatest challenge to Mars in Gemini will be staying on track and not getting too scattered with things that might not be completed if the pace picks up too much. Gemini is typically fun, entertaining, curious open minded and friendly. We can expect most of our action during this time to come in the form of ideas and information; everything begins with an idea after all.

Witty and clever ideas will attract you at this time, as will eclectic people and places. You will be more interested in making contacts and connections, and trying new ways of approaching things; even new and different people. Freedom may be a greater theme over these months, as Gemini likes variety and not being tied down.

Mars retrogrades October 30-January 12, 2023

Mars begins its retrograde at 25 degrees of Gemini and will retrograde all the way back to 8 degrees of Gemini when it will turn direct.

When Mars turns retrograde there is not an even expression of energy, and people can feel more tired than normal. Things may operate more through subtle forms of manipulation as opposed to open conflicts. Many people feel angry more often or lose their temper more quickly. Mars rules our energy and we may have to get more rest and pay more attention to our level of activity.

Sickness and accidents may occur, and we are often more accident prone but you should not expect to get sick, just take care of yourself and be careful. Some may experience more tension headaches as Mars rules the head, especially if you are prone to these.

As Mars begins its retrograde in Gemini, the sign of communication and speech, it will be important to remember it will be easier for people we communicate with to misunderstand what we are saying or misinterpret things. Mars retrograde is not like retrograde Mercury, but since it’s in Mercury’s sign, we could experience some of the same affects and should be aware of the way we communicate with others. If you don’t understand something; ask!

Any plans that are initiated under a retrograde Mars tend to not work out, and this typically includes new relationships. This actually extends to the collective, so anything that begins at this time including war, does not work out for those who start it.

Since Mars rules men, some men may seem to go backwards, especially when it comes to relationships. A very wise astrologer once told me, ‘when Mars goes retrograde women chase the men and when Venus goes retrograde men chase the women.’  Relationships can be affected by a retrograde Mars, along with our libido which may slow down as well.

As with any retrograde planet, issues from the past could surface or we may be faced with making corrections to our action or activities of some type.

Mars and Mercury in mutual reception

Mutual reception occurs in astrology when two planets fall in each other’s sign. Mars is in Gemini, ruled by Mercury and from October 29th through November 17th, Mercury will be in Mars’s sign which is Scorpio. This means these planets work well together and basically help each other along. This will help to keep things a little more level as we get used to the retrograde energy so this is a positive

Mars squares Neptune

Mars squares Neptune three times while in Gemini. The dates are October 11-15, 2022, November 19-23rd, 2022, and March 14-17, 2023. We will however, feel this powerful energy both before and after these planets clash.  Pay attention to what happens in October as there could be reoccurring themes, especially if this hits something in your personal chart. The most significant of the three times this aspect is active will be November, as Mars is retrograde and has a more significant affect.

Mars-Neptune transits are confusing, draining and tiring. Sometimes unusual or strange things happen on a transit like this, and at worst it can be associated with confusion, lies, misunderstandings and deceptive tactics. It is important to be completely above board and honest with this aspect as otherwise it could come back to bite you in the future. Some may feel discouraged, even hopeless and question what they are doing. If this is the case, this energy will pass in a few days and things are typically not as bad as they appear with this aspect.

This transit can also be associated with chemicals, gasses, weapons, water, mold and poisonous substances as well as propaganda.

For some, this could represent a type of spiritual transit that could involve compassion for others or artistic ventures. Dreams could be quite vivid as well as intuition.

Mars turns direct January 12th

The planet of actions turns direct January 12th at 8 degrees of Gemini. When a planet turns direct it called the ‘stationary direct’ phase, as it is changing energy from retrograde to forward motion, but it takes a few days to do so. In this case Mars’ station occurs January 12-24th, 2023. As Mars ‘stations direct’ expect the energy becomes magnified and very powerful, especially if something in your chart falls between 6-9 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces.

At the time of a planets’ station, things may change again, or seem to be more frustrating than usual, so while it will be quite positive that Mars turns direct we aren’t quite out of the woods just yet. Energy will normalize to a greater degree when Mars begins to move forward January 5th. There is still a ‘shadow period’ where things are slowly returning to normal which will last until March 18th.

48 years ago we had Waterdate

US President Richard Nixon resigned August 9, 1974, 48 years ago. To this day, it is a pivotal point in US history, as Nixon was the only President thus far, to leave office under threat of impeachment. He resigned to avoid being impeached and removed from office.

His resignation stemmed from the Watergate burglary of the Democratic headquarters that took place June 17,1972 and his subsequent attempts at cover ups and obstruction.

The Watergate Scandal and details of it unfolded to the public over a two year period during which there was an investigation and many unexpected twists and turns.

Many planetary aspects came into play over the period while Nixon was investigated.  In the interest of brevity I am only going to talk about the most important ones, and key points in the Nixon investigation.

I think it is significant to point out the corruption of the Nixon administration started before the Watergate burglary in 1972.

July 1, 1971, there was a memo written suggesting the formation of the White House plumbers a covert special investigations unit whose task was to stop or respond to the leaking of classified documents.

In August of that year 'Nixon's enemies list' was started by White House aides to use Federal resources to harm or discredit Nixon's political enemies.

At this time, Saturn had entered Gemini and began its opposition to Neptune in Sagittarius. Saturn seeks structure, control, regulations, law and order but Neptune is the planet of illusion, delusion, confusion and lies. It can encourage devious, underhanded and subversive and depressing tactics. Religious views can become important especially those of a material and paternalistic nature. As these planets clash it produces an effect and is associated with certain ideologies, lies, confusion and dishonesty that can occur in the collective, as well as major changes on a grand scale.

By early 1972, the Plumbers, were assigned to the Committee to Re-Elect the President, The Plumbers wanted more projects and apparently this started the train of events that led to the Watergate break-ins a few months later. This narrative was confirmed in the famous "Cancer on the Presidency" conversation between Nixon and White House Counsel John Dean on March 21, 1973.

By the time of the actual Watergate break in Saturn was still within an 8 degree orb of Neptune. Major transits like this influence events in the world over a large span of time, often years.

In 1973 Richard Nixon was a highly regarded president and won reelection in the largest landside in American history. The “Saturday Night Massacre” would change his popularity.

Saturn moved into the sign Cancer and was was square Pluto in Libra by July of 1973. This is the most significant transit of the time. Pluto represents power and control, abuse of power as well as the power of the masses, forces of elimination, totalitarian politics, fanaticism. "It can indicate a need to purge the body politic of old, deep rooted problems. Constellated in a leader it can awaken compulsive instincts for power and dominance."-Nicholas Champion  Saturn represents the rules and structures that we are all governed by.

This transit became exact in September and October of that year.

Saturn in Cancer is also significant on its own as the United States is a Cancer country. This Saturn cycle would be a time of testing in the US.

One of the more significant moments that lead to the impeachment articles was on October 20, (1973) when Nixon ordered his Attorney General to fire the special prosecutor of the Watergate investigation, Archibald Cox. Cox had subpoenaed recordings from the White House that Nixon believed would incriminate him. The AG refused to fire Cox, as did his chief assistant, and resigned instead. Nixon continued on until he found someone down the line who would fire Cox, and this became known as the Saturday night massacre.

At this time the Saturn was square Pluto at 4 degrees of Cancer-Libra. Pluto was also squaring Venus and Jupiter in the US natal chart. Jupiter rules the legal system and laws.

By March of 1974, another significant transit occurred as Jupiter entered Pisces and squared Neptune in Sagittarius.  Pisces is ruled by Neptune the planet that distorts and confuses and was very powerful in its square with Neptune, one of its ruling planets. Neptune can be politically unrealistic and tied to devious methods. Jupiter expands whatever it touches, good or bad. This combination produces smoke and mirrors, lies and things are frequently not as they appear. Many people are scammed on a transit like this. Religious and ideological belief systems are often of importance during these times.

During July,1974 three articles of impeachment against Nixon were approved for obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and contempt of Congress.

Cox was replaced by Leon Jaworski, who became the second special prosecutor and the subpoena for the tapes from the Oval office stood.

After a major outcry On November 17, Nixon gave his famous speech, claiming "I am not a crook."

The White House tapes were released in July, 1974 implicating Nixon in the cover-up. At this point, there was no saving his Presidency.

Nixon resigned and left office rather than face impeachment on August 9, 1974.

On that infamous day Saturn was conjunct the Sun in the US natal chart at 13 degrees of Cancer. The Sun rules the US President in mundane astrology. The planet of discipline, responsibility, law and order took its due.

Mars squares Saturn next; Blocks and frustration

Mars the action planet, known as the ‘God of War,’ is separating from its conjunction with Uranus that was exact on Monday, August 1st. It’s been a chaotic and unpredictable time for many, especially for those whose chart this aspect actually hit.

Floods in Kentucky have killed dozens of people, tension is building over House Speaker Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan sending the stock market down 359 points (DJIA) Tuesday, and the US drones killed the current al-Qaeda leader to name a few things that have occurred around the world. While these planets are separating the energy is still with us.

By the latter part of the week Mars will be approaching its square to Saturn which is exact August 7th, but this is a different type of energy.

Mars-Saturn creates frustration, blocked energy, aggravation, and potential arguments, accidents and disagreements as well as basic irritability and difficulty in self expression. Mars rules our energy and in some way it may seem restricted. This can be a period where we don't have the vigor we are accustomed to, and we may feel limited or slowed down in some way.

This is not a positive transit and the more you fight a situation the more resistance you will face. The best way to deal with this transit is to proceed with caution, slowly and methodically as you go about your week. If something seems impossible or difficult give it a few days and try again. Used constructively, you may accomplish more than you think if your frustrations don’t get the better of you. Take a defensive approach and relax if you can, especially since the aspect is exact on Sunday.

Saturn-Mars transits can involve military and police affairs, and we can expect to see some upheaval in the news over these few days.

August 2022 astrology

By the latter part of August all of the outer planets; Pluto, Neptune, Uranus and Saturn are all retrograde, along with Jupiter, and Mercury has entered its retrograde ‘shadow period,’ and will turn retrograde on September 10th. This means we are entering a time where many matters are going to have to be reconsidered, reorganized or completed both on a collective and personal level before we can really move forward.

The Sun transits through positive and upbeat Leo, and enters Virgo August 23rd.  Mercury transits through three signs this month; Leo, Virgo and Libra changing Mercurial styles and communication several times. Venus, the planet of love and values leaves Cancer for Leo, and Mars, the action planet leaves Taurus and enters Gemini where it will retrograde later this year, remaining in this sign until late March 2023. The Full moon will fall in unpredictable Uranus and the New Moon falls in the sign that rules health and work; Virgo. By month’s end the powerful Saturn-Uranus square that we have been dealing with since 2021 is within a two degree orb, which means we will experience many changes collectively, and certain changes personally as this powerful aspect completes by October. This is one of the ten most significant aspects for the world, and while it will complete, the results will continue to play out in the years that come. Now, the details.

On August 1st, Mars is conjunct Uranus and this unpredictable and changeable aspect will remain with us for the next week, shaking things up and bringing unexpected change to our lives. From here Mars enters its square to Saturn which is exact August 7th. While Mars-Uranus has to do with sudden and unexpected events, Mars-Saturn is a draining and tiring if not frustrating type of energy. It may seem as though you are paddling upstream, but if this is the case, know this energy will pass in just a few days and things will return to normal.

August 3rd, Mercury leaves Leo for Virgo changing up Mercurial energies and the way we communicate.  Mercury in Virgo considered by astrologers to be ‘at home,’ so this will be a major energetic switch from Mercury in Leo. Mercury is the planetary ruler of both Gemini and Virgo. While Mercury in Gemini is associated with quick responses, intelligence, and communication about a many different ideas, when Mercury is in Virgo communication and thinking is geared more toward facilitating ideas, analyzing information and presenting facts in a straight forward and factual manner.

Gemini may reach out for information of all types and go in different directions but Virgo hones in on what is most important and puts that information to practical use. While both signs rule Mercury, they each have a very different approach and purpose.

Virgo is very discerning and is often considered lazar focused. The downside to Mercury in Virgo is that at times it can be so discerning one can become lost in details, overly critical or picky, and this can be misinterpreted (or not). It is important to remember that while constructive criticism is one thing, Virgo can get caught up in being so overly critical, others are turned off. Most of the time however, Virgo’s true intent is just to get things right.

Venus, the planet ruling love, money and values moves into Leo August 11-September 5th. When Venus transits through Leo the heart radiates with extra fire and love, or a desire for love. Leo loves to indulge, eat, drink, buy beautiful things and be merry! The best and highest manifestation of Venus in Leo is childlike joy, fun and happiness along with mutual respect for yourself and others.

When Shakespeare wrote, ““All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts,” he must have been thinking of Venus in Leo.

Leo is bold and dramatic and many will play out their dramas in real life over these next three weeks. There will be a great deal of acting out and people will speak their minds and their needs in a bigger way.  Some may appear or come across as flashier or make grand gestures toward those they are romantically attracted to. Venus in Leo is about having fun, and can perhaps extend the excitement of summer just a little longer.

With Venus in Leo love, affection and attraction becomes more outgoing, affectionate, ardent, passionate and romantic in nature. It can make us feel love is grand, and isn’t this what most of us are really looking for?

With Venus in Leo you (or your lover) could shower you with gifts, attention and greater validation. Venus in Leo loves to be adored, pampered and made to feel special.

The only downside to Leo is when things go sideways in love, personal drama can be extreme, over-stated or egotistical, and actions or even conversations can occur simply for the dramatic effect it will cause.

Full Moon in Aquarius August 11th

This month’s full moon falls at 19 degrees of Aquarius and peaks at 9:36 PM, EDT. Aquarius is the sign ruled by both Saturn and Uranus and Aquarius is the natural ruler of the 11th house of groups and the collective, so our energies will be focused on others for the most part, and issues that can affect us all.

This is bound to be a very unpredictable full moon since it is ruled by Uranus, but the Moon also squares or clashes with Uranus which will create a number of unexpected events in the world and our personal lives. To top this off, the Sun squares Uranus as well, making this one of the most unpredictable full moons in quite a while. This does not mean all is bad, or doom and gloom, but it is hard to know what unexpected events may occur. Uranus is typically about freedom and independence, disruptive and unpredictable events. In mundane or world astrology this planet is associated with coups, rebellions, explosions, explosive events, aircraft, lightening and the internet. It is also connected with unexpected weather or earth related events, technology,  new technology and unusual twists and turns.

Now is the time to think outside the box and find a new path forward. Uranus can be connected with cutting edge types of technology and new approaches. For some, this moon may bring about some type of unexpected endings, but that only means a new door will soon open. You may feel an intense drive to do or try something different, but think things through before acting.

The Moon opposes Mercury and this can bring about irritation, arguments and problems with young people. There can be a conflict between intuitive and rational thinking. Most importantly, this aspect is accident prone so use caution if you are driving.

Mercury also sextiles Uranus which can open you up to new ideas, possibilities and new ways of thinking.

The positive part of this new moon can open you up to new ideas, information and change. The negative side of all of this Uranus energy is indecision, changeable emotions and unexpected events that could disrupt whatever you have planned. This will no doubt, be a heavy news day.

Mars enters Gemini

August 20th, Mars enters Gemini where it will remain until March 25th, 2023. This is an unusually long time for Mars to spend in a sign but it will retrograde from October 30, 2022-January 12, 2023, and then it will repeat nearly the entire Mars cycle that occurred in the fall all over again. This means that many of the things we begin on or around the retrograde will have to be re-done, rethought, completed or abandoned after Mars turns direct in 2023.

Mars in Gemini is in the sign ruling communication, so communication will be affected becoming more important, assertive and there is a good chance we will say what is on our minds. Mars-Gemini will be all about speech, communication and Ideas and there is a good chance much of it will be back tracked when it turns retrograde, only to come up with a new and better plan after it turns direct again.

August 22nd, the Sun enters Virgo where it will remain until September 22nd, or the fall solstice.  This is the mutable sign of summer, or the time when summer is winding up and the weather begins to change in much of the country. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet of thought and communication. It is no coincidence that school typically begins at this time of year, and people are returning to work from vacations. Virgo is the natural ruler of the 6th house of work and health. Many people become focused on health and fitness at this time, and it is typically a good time for Dr. visits, dieting and fitness plans.

August 24th, Uranus begins its yearly retrograde. Uranus is a highly innovative planet, and when the energy retrogrades is internalized. .  If you are experiencing a Uranus transit personally, Uranus’s stationary retrograde can be a significant period and we will seek innovation and changes within ourselves and our own inner thinking and way of approaching things. We may look to new directions new ways of thinking, or in some cases a totally different path depending on whether or not you feel things in your life are working as they should be. These changes will generally take place on an inner level and focused on the outside world when Uranus reverses course and turns direct again January 22nd, 2023.

August 25th, Mercury enters Libra where it will remain for the rest of the month. With this Mercury placement we will be more focused with those around us or partners, both personal and professional. This is an intellectual air sign that seeks balance and harmony, especially when it comes to communicating with those who are closest to us. Mercury turns retrograde in Libra September 10th, and remains in this sign until it re-enters Virgo September 24th. It will re-enter Libra for the second time October 10th, and repeat the entire cycle once again until it enters Scorpio on October 29th.
