December will be one of the most pivotal
months of the year when it comes to astrology. Saturn will square Uranus again,
Jupiter enters the sign Pisces for the 2nd time, and Venus turns
retrograde while Neptune turns direct. The Sun will transit through Sagittarius
and then Scorpio. Mars finishes its cycle in Scorpio and then moves to Sagittarius
while Mercury, the planet of communication transits through Sagittarius and
then Capricorn. A powerful solar eclipse occurs on December 4th, and
the final full moon of the year will fall in talkative and upbeat Gemini. Now,
the details.
Saturn squares Uranus
This powerful aspect completes again
this month for the 3rd time this year. While the energy will be with
us all month, the most important time is the 2nd half of the month
as this aspect gets closer to completion and is ‘exact’ December 23-24th.
This year during the holiday season we may see more going on in terms of world
events and for some greater change in our personal lives than in past years.
Saturn-Uranus is one of the 10 major
aspects that bring about broad and unexpected change on the world stage and with
us personally. This transit was previously exact in February and June. If you
experienced major changes then, it is highly possible you will see more change
this month.
Saturn-Uranus transits are associated with
financial downturns, extremism, protests, revolutions and civil unrest to name
a few. Politics will play a major role in what happens at this time in the US
with the third Saturn-Uranus square. Uranus rules electricity, aircraft,
significant weather conditions and the internet to name a few. Saturn rules the
status quo in terms of power and government. It also rules the aged,
responsibility, hard work, authority figures, rules and our bone structure. With
Uranus in the picture it is hard to know exactly what events will occur, as
Uranus is the most unpredictable of planets. It is likely this aspect represents
another surge in Covid as we enter the New Year if changes are not made to slow
it down.
In our own lives we may experience
personal changes on many different levels.
What exactly happens depends on where Aquarius and Taurus fall in your
personal chart. Some of the manifestations of this transit may include: Job and
work changes that happen suddenly, breakups of relationships that are not
committed or stable, and desire for greater freedom from anything you find
repressive. Changes in finances can occur, or losses. Sometimes issues and
situations we have been putting up for years suddenly end. If this happens know
that whatever ended has outlived its purpose and new experiences will shortly
follow.
At times transits like this it can coincide
with major projects and events coming together that we have been working on for
some time, and this transit is not always negative, just prone to change.
Either way, with Uranus in the picture there can be an unexpected element to what
we experience at this time, but almost everyone will experience some kind of
change or jolt. You will be affected to a greater degree if you have fixed
planets (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius) at 9-12 degrees in your chart. This
transit will continue on throughout most of 2022. The final Saturn-Uranus square
will become exact once more in October of 2022 before it completes its full
cycle.
The planet of luck and gain enters Pisces
December 28th, Jupiter
re-enters Pisces where it will spend about half of 2022. Jupiter dipped its
toes into Pisces this year May 13th-July 28th but it only
reached 2 degrees before turning retrograde. On July 28th, it moved
back into Aquarius.
When Jupiter re-enters Pisces it will
remain in this sign until May 10th. At this point it will enter
Aries and remain here until October 29th when it returns to Pisces
one more time, until December 19th, 2022.
Jupiter in Pisces is related to
creativity, spirituality, creative expression, compassion and intuition on the
positive end. Faith and optimism may make a great comeback with Jupiter here. The
sign Pisces is associated with Jupiter, its ancient ruler and also its modern
ruler which is Neptune. While Jupiter is expansive and typically positive, Neptune is the planet of illusion, delusion
and confusion, as well as psychic abilities, religion, theatre and the arts,
the ocean and drugs, alcohol, drugs and lies or misinterpretations of the facts. During Jupiter’s retrograde period
(especially) in Pisces we must guard against self-deception, sacrificing ones
happiness for the whim of others, and looking at things through too-rosy
glasses.
While Jupiter in Aquarius has been
about new ways of approaching things, brotherhood and equality, Jupiter in
Pisces will be about healing, compassion and the roles of those who help and
serve will be amplified. Romance may make somewhat of a comeback along with the
finer more gentle qualities associated with love and romance.
Pisces is connected to drugs and
addictions of all types which for some could be amplified, along with a desire
for redemption on many different levels. Psychics, dreams and spiritualism,
mediumship, astrology and other esoteric arts will prosper and become more
widespread as people search for answers.
Pisces/Neptune can also be associated with
those who have the least. Don’t be surprised if we don’t see significant humanitarian
actions of some sort during this time.
If you are a Pisces, you can expect a
certain amount of luck and positivity with Jupiter in your sign. This will benefit
all water signs as well, along with Taurus and Capricorn. For Virgo, this
places Jupiter in the 7th house of committed relationships and
marriage, so we may see an increase in marriage and commitment for Virgo in
2022. Scorpio may benefit in the area of romance as well as Jupiter will
transit through their 5th house of love. Make the most of this
transit if it aspects your chart as it will be 12 years before the planet of
expansion returns to this sign again.
Venus turns retrograde
Venus entered Capricorn November 8th
and will remain in this sign until March 6, 2022 due to its December
retrograde. This is an unusually long period for Venus to remain in any one
sign.
Venus-Capricorn is ruled by Saturn,
the planet of structure, work and responsibility and this will set the tone
with our love interests and well as our values, and the way we approach work
and money matters until March of next year.
Love and social activities take on a
more traditional, enduring and committed flavor. The focus will shift to the
more practical side of love, and being more conservative with money along with
a greater focus on work.
Sometimes there can be a desire for
social prestige and attraction to those in positions of authority with Venus in
this sign. Venus in Capricorn is attracted to wealth, security and status.
Romance can be overshadowed by responsibility
which will generally come first while Venus transits this sign. Since Capricorn
can be known as a workaholic, we may have to slow down a bit to smell the roses
for the next three months.
Venus-Capricorn takes a more mature
approach to relationships and love which must be earned while Venus is in this
sign. Relationships will be built on a willingness to work together through
difficult times, as Saturn understands the true meaning and value of
commitment. Venus will reward hard work in relationships by defining obstacles
and making the commitment together to solve them.
Venus in a Saturn ruled sign may not
sound appealing to some, but it projects its own type of warmth, stability and
security in an Earthy type of way. Now is the time to focus on this side of
your relationship and make it more substantive, lasting and real.
Venus turns stationary retrograde
Venus turns stationary retrograde
December 19th through the 23rd and this can be a
significant time in terms of retrograde Venus. Of course it will remain
retrograde through January 29, 2022. During this time we will be re-thinking
matters concerning the practical side of relationships and whether or not they
are serving our needs. To know more about what this powerful retrograde will do
in your life it is important to know the part of your personal chart that is
ruled by Capricorn.
Venus retrograde is
not the time to buy art, have cosmetic surgery or purchase anything expensive
that relates to beauty, or get married or engaged.
Venus retrogrades
about every 18 months, and retrogrades in the same sign every 8 years so the
last retrograde we experienced in Capricorn was December 21st,
2013-January 31st, 2014. If you recall what happened at this time,
there could be a re-occurring theme during this retrograde.
Venus retrograde
and its karmic affect
Since Venus
affects love, money, values and our social lives some or all of these things
can become more difficult in some way during a retrograde period of Venus, but
at the same time we can gain more clarity as to where we are going and who we
are going there with.
Venus retrograde is a karmic period and at
times our love lives can take dramatic shifts one way or another. Some
relationships can end, or come back together. If a relationship comes back
together it was meant to, and if one ends at this time, it is granting you the
freedom to find someone more appropriate. What happens at this time is
typically meant to happen and we often experience some dramatic changes,
especially with relationships that are tottering on the edge. Venus retrograde
is strongly associated with the past, and ties to the past.
Venus conjunct Pluto
Venus will
conjunct Pluto several times during this retrograde period. The first conjunction
occurs December 11th, then Christmas Day (retrograde) but the energy
will be with us much of December, and this Venus-Pluto cycle will not actually
complete until March 3rd, 2022.
With Venus
conjunct Pluto we will be inclined to look beneath the surface in terms of
relationships, resources, personal values, and aesthetics. This aspect is known
for its tendencies toward possessiveness, jealousy and obsession.
Under a
Venus-Pluto transit we are often involved with the shadow side concerning all
of the above mentioned areas. This can include issues relating to sex, money or
power, and who holds the power. It can also bring up issues relating to fear or
loss, and manipulation. The more we face the shadow side of these issues the
greater our chances of attracting those things that are truly wanted and needed
but first we must face the fears to transform our thoughts and ideas about what
we really want.
This aspect will
manifest in the US as issues related to money, women and a potential upswing in
Covid deaths if caution is not taken. It is possible we could see the death of
a public individual. There is a dark side to this transit that can manifest through
domestic relationships but this aspect is not significant enough to cause this
if issues are not already present. It is also possible we could be re-thinking
laws protecting women.
Solar eclipse in Sagittarius December 4th
December’s New
Moon falls at 14 degrees of Sagittarius and this is a solar eclipse and is also
considered a supermoon. Supermoons appear closer to the earth and affect the
ocean tides to a greater degree. They are frequently associated with earth disturbances
such as tidal waves and earthquakes.
Sagittarius is
the ruler of the 9th house of travel, education and world view. Its
planetary ruler is lucky Jupiter, the planet of gain and expansion. This is the
last eclipse connected to a series of eclipses in Gemini-Sagittarius in 2020.
These eclipses have activated topics relating to communication and how we communicate,
information and technology. What have you learned since June 5th,
when this series of eclipses began?
Jupiter likes to
do things in a big way, so go big at this time, or go home. Go big with a plan and
you will have a good chance at accomplishing something worthwhile at this time.
This eclipse is
supported by Saturn which gives us some stability and the ability to get things
done. While the moon makes no negative aspects this time, Saturn’s square to
Uranus is very closely aligned and will peak on Christmas day. This means
certain things can be overturned, changed, ended or the like, and we will see
this play out on the world stage as well as our own lives.
You will be
affected to a greater degree if you have fixed planets (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or
Aquarius) at 9-12 degrees.
Eclipses show us
where our focus will be throughout the year. Nine times out of 10, something
previously unknown is revealed on an eclipse, so sometimes surprising things
happen. Sagittarius is typically a positive, upbeat and expansive sign so use
this time to determine what area of your life you would like to expand and how
you intend to go about accomplishing it.
Neptune turns direct
December
1st, Neptune turns direct after its 5 month retrograde in Pisces. Neptune retrogrades every year and while its
retrograde is not dramatic like retrograde Mercury, it nevertheless can have a
profound impact, especially if it is making an aspect in your personal chart.
As
this powerful planet turns direct confusion may increase for the time, and
events may be revealed for what they really are, especially if Neptune is
aspecting other planets in your chart in a harsh angle. Neptunian events have a
tendency to appear as surprising, but in actuality the basis of what gets
revealed was there all along, just hidden in a fog of confusion and obscured
from recognition. Examples of this can
frequently show up relating to matters of the heart. For example, the person
you are interested in does not feel the same way, or is committed to someone
else, or involved with others all along and you are faced with the reality and
having to take off your rose colored glasses. We may feel the person we were
attracted to is our soul mate or a perfect partner which leads to
discouragement, depression and disenchantment. Often when Neptune retrogrades
we find out that our dreams were not based on reality and we can experience a
period of confusion.
Alternatively,
this could affect any aspect of your life depending on where transiting Neptune
is in your personal chart... Others may barely notice a change if Neptune is
not aspecting their personal charts.
If Neptune is
making a positive aspect in your chart you may feel that you have achieved some
type of dream or things may appear or seem ideal for a time.
Spiritual and
creative issues are internalized when Neptune is retrograde and we may do a
great deal of inner work during this time. When Neptune turns direct we can
realize the benefit of our inner work. It could also become easier to present
any type of artistic and creative ventures to the outside world.
Mars enters Sagittarius
December 13th, the planet
of action leaves Scorpio for Sagittarius. Mars is connected to the way we act
or react toward things, our direct action and it rules men as well as
aggression, police and war.
Expect energies as well as our direct action to
become more jovial, positive and optimistic, as Sagittarius is typically among
the most positive of signs.
Sagittarius is an expansive sign, and is ruled
by the planet Jupiter, considered the ‘greater benefic,’ and the harbinger of
luck making Sagittarius is the most ‘lucky’ sign of all.
Sagittarius is interested in expanding the
personal viewpoint and adventure. Don’t be surprised if you don’t want to
explore new ways of approaching things and different ways of dealing with old
problems or issues. This may bring out a greater spirit of adventure and fun,
especially as it encompasses the holidays this year.
Sagittarius loves travel. Many will be
traveling this month, and if you aren’t don’t be surprised if you don’t find
yourself looking at future destinations for the New Year.
Sagittarius or the 9th house, also
rules education, higher learning and philosophy. All education does not have to
be formal and you could find yourself trying to expand your mind or education
in some way.
The 9th house also rules courts and
legal issues, so it is likely we will hear some important judicial rulings
during Mars time in Sagittarius.
The downside of Sagittarius is restlessness,
and over expansiveness to the point of blowing things out of proportion, over
spending/over doing on the spur of the moment.
For Sagittarians or those with a Sagittarius
ascendant Mars entrance into their sign represents the start of a new two year
cycle. With Mars in the first house
activity picks up in general and most people become very busy during this time
as the planet of action starts it’s once every two year sojourn through the
first house of their natal chart.
Sagittarius
is the fiery sign ruled by the planet of wisdom Jupiter. Mars in this sign of
enthusiasm and optimism is fierce; also it is inquisitive and curious. You will
be full of dynamism and energy during this period and adventure and
entertainment may take a more important place in your life for this period.
Other aspects this month
December 6th, Mars
sextiles Pluto. You can accomplish a great deal with this aspect today,
especially when it comes to dealing with groups of people. You will not be
satisfied with the superficial and may delve deeply into something, and this
will be made easier with this aspect.
December 7th, Mercury
squares Neptune and Mars squares Jupiter. Mercury-Neptune aspects tend to be
confusing and unclear. This is not a good day to make an important decision if
you can avoid it. Communication may be a problem and unclear as well so finding
clarity is the key. Mars-Jupiter aspects can be positive but at times things
tend to be blown out of proportion.
December 11th, Mercury
sextiles Jupiter and the Sun squares Neptune. Mercury-Jupiter is a positive and
helpful aspect especially for communication, but the Sun square Neptune can be
a day fraught with confusion, misinformation and lack of clarity or forgetfulness.
This aspect will extend into the next day.
Mercury enters Capricorn
December
13th, Mercury also changes signs and enters Capricorn. The planet of travel, intellect and
communication will remain in this sign until January 2nd, 2022
Mercury in Capricorn will bring us
down to earth in many respects. While Mercury was in Sagittarius our planning
and communication was big, grand and bold. Now, we can take the ideas and plans
we came up with over the past three weeks and turn them into reality. We can
expect to be operating from a place of being goal-oriented and much more
grounded.
While Mercury in Capricorn may not be
the most exciting of transits it can enable us to turn the ideas and plans we
have into practical reality. There is a time to dream big but now is the time
to be grounded and practical and a little more conservative in our thinking and
communications and see what benefits we can actually reap as they may be more
than you expect.
Capricorn rules business and leans
toward a goal of success through efficiency and hard work. With Mercury in this
sign our thoughts are clear and our communication is direct. Now is the time to
access your business and professional life and plan for the future. This
transit can help provide focus on the practical nuts and bolts issues of life
and work. Results will matter most with Mercury placed in Capricorn.
As Capricorn is ruled by Saturn which
is serious in nature we must use care not to become too serious, tiresome or
authoritative while Mercury is in this sign. At worse we can come across as
pessimistic and have a difficult time with taking leaps of faith as Capricorn
wants concrete results which are not always possible to guarantee.
The Gemini full moon
The last full
moon of the year falls at 27 degrees of Gemini on December 18th at
8:36 PM, EDT. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication.
Gemini is
typically upbeat, positive, talkative and full of ideas. Information is
constantly flowing with the moon in this sign so expect a great deal of
chatter, talking and even learning. The point of Gemini is to expand,
especially where thinking is concerned. This moon makes no negative aspects and
trines Jupiter. This create a hopeful and optimistic type of energy and most
people will feel good at this time, depending of course, on what it does in
your own personal chart. This will be a great time for getting together with
friends, family members or anyone else in your circle that you have been
missing. This full moon will wrap up a happier ending to the year so make the
most of it.
December 19th,
The Sun sextiles Jupiter. This is a very positive and optimistic transit on the
heels of the full moon.
December 20th,
Mercury trines Uranus. Today is a day to look at new ideas, and approaches to
things. Follow your mind down a new path.
The Capricorn season
December 21st,
the Sun enters Capricorn and this marks the winter solstice, or the shortest
day of the year. This year winter comes in at 3:18PM, EDT which coincides with
the Sun’s entrance into Capricorn and the Capricorn season is on! The Sun will
remain in this sign until January 19th, 2022.
For centuries winter solstice has
been seen as a significant time in various cultures which have held festivals
or rituals marking the symbolic death and rebirth of the Sun as this day followed
by a lengthening of the days after December 21st.
Capricorn is the sign that rules the 10th
house of the zodiac or work and priorities and during this season we tend to
focus on things that are most important. Capricorn does not provide the light and
playful energy experience with the Sun in Sagittarius. Capricorn is more
serious, focused and it is time to get real! Get ready for energies to become
geared more toward discipline, structure, resourcefulness and practicality.
Under Capricorn we get down to the basics that allow
personal achievement to occur. Now is the time to figure out what you really
need, as opposed to what you want in the moment. Should I book that ticket to
Maui for the spring, or should I put my bonus into my investment account?
Capricorn is an Earth sign along with Taurus and
Virgo. These are the signs that are typically considered reliable, stable and
connected to the physical/material world. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the
planet of structure, discipline and responsibility. In all likelihood you will
find yourself thinking about ambition and growth or success in the material
world. We can save the dreams, feelings and ethereal energies for the Pisces
season just before spring!
Capricorn isn’t just all about work though; it is
about dedication, success, knowledge and understanding of how things can
actually work, allowing us to get to where we really want to be. Will we
actually act on our plans or just talk about them. Capricorn likes to takes
action which leads to concrete results.
The Capricorn season is about discovering who we
really are, what it takes to make us happy and what kind of approach we can
take to get where we really want to be. This energy transcends work and is
apparent in many different phases of life. In other words, this season will
show us the nuts and bolts of what it really takes to achieve our true dreams
and goals, whether they relate to a corporate climb, or a personal dream to be
fit enough to climb Mt. Everest. What your goals are is up to you. Capricorn
will help you get there.
December 26th, Mercury sextiles Neptune. This
is creative and compassionate energy. Whether you are focused on world problems
today, listening to music or just dreaming this transit will help.
December 29th, Mercury conjuncts Venus.
This is a great day for any social activity and spending time with a love
interest. Since Venus rules money, this is also a great day for any type of
business opportunity or presentation you may wish to make. Also, Mars sextiles
Saturn giving us the extra push and discipline to get things done.
December 30th, Mercury conjuncts Pluto.
Use care on this transit especially if you are driving not just because this is
a prelude to New Year ’s Eve, but because it is accident prone. We may do a lot
of deep thinking today re-hashing the old year as well as imagining the new.
Under this aspect we look for the deeper meaning in life, relationships and any
other significant part of our lives. Happy New Year, and may all of your dreams
come true in 2022.
