December 2019: Jupiter enters Capricorn

Happy holidays! It has been quite a year as we have been approaching the pivotal Saturn-Pluto conjunction of January 2020. Many changes have occurred in the world and in our lives and it has been a stressful time for many. During December things will continue at the same rapid pace as we have grown accustomed to, with several big changes.

Jupiter changes signs and we experience the first of two major eclipses December 26. Jupiter is considered the planet of luck and gain and it changes signs ever year. December 2, it leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn where it will remain for the next year.

Jupiter in Sagittarius has been in the sign of it’s rulership making it powerful and optimistic. As it enters Capricorn, Jupiter is considered at its ‘fall,’ which weakens the function of the planet. This does not mean however, things can’t turn out in a positive manner. As Jupiter is the planet of joy, luck and expansion its placement in Saturn’s sign (Capricorn) can be an awkward fit but of course this should bode well for earth signs, especially those born under the sign Capricorn.

Jupiter in Sagittarius has been concerned with ideas, and expansion, Capricorn is the sign where the ideas can be implemented. Some keywords for Capricorn might be mastery or reality over optimism. Jupiter in Saturn’s sign is more sober than optimistic; more interested in the details of how of something is going to be accomplished and therefore it can lead to solid accomplishment based on ‘doing the work.’

Jupiter in this signs is all about building something. Capricorn is a Cardinal sign which means energy can change and be directed toward an important goal. The role of a cardinal sign is to push forward. You will fare well with Jupiter in this sign if you can take a realistic and mature view of things. Jupiter in Capricorn will be about ambition, leadership and a drive for economic growth and power.

Jupiter will trine Uranus in December, and we could experience unexpected opportunities at this time or set something new into motion. This will only occur once and it will be in effect most of the month. It will be exact approximately December 12-17.

Jupiter will remain in Capricorn until December 18, 2020, when it will enter Aquarius. Jupiter’s last transit through Capricorn was December 2007-early 2009.

Approaching the Saturn-Pluto conjunction of 2020

As we begin December we are roughly 5 weeks away from the powerful Saturn-Pluto conjunction. These two power house planets meet up at 22 degrees of Capricorn January 7-14, and a major eclipse occurs on January 12, that will ‘set off’ this aspect.

Saturn conjunct Pluto is not an easy transit. Some things will end to make room for new beginnings. This can include jobs, relationships and any other number of situations depending on where this falls in your personal chart. If something ends remember another door will open.

The Saturn-Pluto conjunction is not easy to understand as Pluto deals with that which is deeply hidden, and Saturn relates to structures, time and limitations. When combined with Pluto, Saturn becomes very demanding and many things must be transformed during this period. Saturn-Pluto will test things in our lives for resilience just as earthquake will tests a building's structure. A building that is structurally sound is much more likely to withstand the earthquake but a house built of cards will be eliminated. We are being put in a position to defend our positions on many matters that can include work, relationships, financial preparedness, and other areas of our lives. On a larger scale, society itself is being tested, and that which is not working will be eliminated altogether or transformed into something different.

This transit will affect us personally and the world stage. Saturn-Pluto aspects typically deal with who the power and therefore it deals with corruption and abuse of power as well as who makes the decisions that affect us all.

Pluto transits have a way of purging things that do not suit the collective good. We are seeing this transit play out at this time in the form of Presidential impeachment hearings in the US. In Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu was recently charged with fraud, bribery and breach of trust. In Turkey there is a pushback against Ergogan and his politics, and the protests continue in Hong Kong against Chinese rule and Pro-democracy forces won the last election. There is still a fight over Brexit in the UK and these are only a few examples of the types of changes we will see. This transit will set the stage for the year 2020 and the changes we experience will change some things forever. All is not negative however as this transit tends to remove things that need to make room for the new, and another way to look at it is the evolution of man and our personal lives. As we move through December we will see a great deal of change and unfortunately we will see a lot of collective stress as well.

December annular eclipse
December’s solar eclipse falls the day after Christmas and the lunar peak occurs just after midnight, EST. Technically it is called an annular eclipse, or sometimes a ring of fire eclipse. This happens when the new moon moves directly in front of the sun and is too small to totally cover over the sun’s disk. It will be visible from Saudi Arabia, southern India, and parts of Indonesia, and, those in Europe, parts of Asia, and North/West Australia will see a partial eclipse.

This eclipse falls at 4 degrees of Capricorn. Capricorn rules the 10th house of business, priorities and banking and is concerned with personal if not financial security. This is a generally fortuitous and positive eclipse as it conjuncts Jupiter and makes a trine to Uranus. The theme will be prosperity and new beginnings with the trine to Uranus. Now is a positive time for travel, dealing with foreigners and expanding your sphere of influence.

Other significant transits in December:

December 3, Venus sextiles Mars bringing the male and female planets into harmony. A good day for socializing.

December 8, The Sun squares Neptune. This can be a day where confusion reigns. Check over important documents and make sure all things of importance are clear.

December 9, Mercury enters Sagittarius. Communication will increase and our thinking may be a little more upbeat with this transit. As Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter we can hear some tall tales and some things may be blown out of proportion.

December 11-12, the full moon falls at 19 degrees of Gemini. Gemini rules the 3rd house of communication, immediate family and co-workers. This moon can manifest itself as a desire for change or doing things on the spur of the moment as Gemini can’t stand to be bored.

The primary influence at this time is the triple conjunction of Saturn, Pluto and Venus. This can mean challenges in terms of love or money, and if there is an issue it will likely reach a peak at this time. You may well ask yourself if your relationship continues to serve a purpose.  Mars trine Neptune can lend itself to creativity and compassion.

This is the final full moon of the year. It’s time to wrap up the last 6 months and prepare for new beginnings in the New Year.

December 19, Mercury squares Neptune as the Sun did earlier. Confusion may abound, new information can be revealed, but check your facts about anything important. Use caution while driving as this can be a tiring day where many people don’t pay attention to the road.  We could see water related weather conditions.

December 20, Venus enters Aquarius. Venus in this sign is far less serious than it was in Capricorn. People may be more open to fun, new experiences and demand more personal freedom.

December 21, the Sun enters Capricorn and this begins the first official day of winter. The Sun in Capricorn is more serious and we will be motivated by ambition, achievement and more traditional values. We are in the Capricorn season.

December 22, Venus squares Uranus. This can be a day of excitement and fun, or it can be a day fraught with unexpected events and change especially involving relationships and money. This is a day to remain flexible. The possibilities however are positive.

December 28, Mercury changes signs once again and enters Capricorn placing 5 planets in the same sign. Conversation and thinking becomes more serious and we will be focused on matters of ambition and personal security.

Here’s wishing you and yours the best of holidays however you celebrate and a happy and prosperous New Year!
