The Sun squares Saturn: restrictive influences

The Sun squares Saturn September 13, peaking at 10: 58 PM, EST. You will feel the energy the day before and possibly the day after. This is a restrictive and tiring transit, that will seem limiting in many ways that can include relationships, future plans and daily activities.

Communication and actions may seem inhibited on this day. Others may try and restrict your action or it could be the other way around. Some people may seem stern, harsh or cold.

You could experience criticism from authority figures, and this day represents a test to get ahead and move forward in normal day to day activities.

Romantic relationships may seem to cool down, or you could experience a lack of romantic opportunity. Some relationships will end, but it would not be due to this short lived transit, and they would be tottering on the edge anyway. This is not a great day for social activity, especially relating to new acquaintances.

As Saturn rules fear, you could feel fearful about certain situations or pessimistic. Your natural vitality may seem off. You could be too hard on yourself if you aren't careful.

If other circumstances permit it, this could be a day you push through and accomplish practical undertakings with a lot of hard work.

Watch your mood today, and how you come across to others. Some people may simply 'wake up on the wrong side of the bed.'

If you have mutable planets (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius,  Pisces) at 20-21 degrees, this transit could affect your chart and bring change, depending on what it is aspecting. Some situations could come together, or end altogether.

This transit will play out in the world and the US, as it hits the transiting Saturn-Neptune square currently in the US natal chart. We may hear reports of the amount of damage recent weather conditions have caused, or matters pertaining to foreign events and/or scandals, and it is not limited to these situations.

I'm mad, get out of my way now!

Between now and September 19, Mars and Mercury are conjunct or within a couple of degrees of being conjunct in the early degrees of Virgo.

First of all, Virgo can be the most critical sign in the zodiac. It is also worrisome, and I have called it whiny. But, it can be more than this, it can result in arguments, verbal jabs, and at worst it can escalate into massive arguments or fights, or even ugly communication going on behind your back.

Mars and Mercury were conjunct in the sign Leo the weekend of September 3-4.

Mental irritation, headaches, sharp tongues, verbal jousting, spontaneous aggravations and not well thought out verbal outbursts will be the norm over these days if you aren't careful. It could come from you or someone else.

This energy can be transmuted into mental activity, writing, communicating and planning or debate if you have the willpower and perseverance to do so. It could be a great transit for attorneys.

Another side of this energy is accidents and situations involving transportation or driving. At this time there is an exodus from Florida and the East Coast, and traffic will be a nightmare. This is however not limited to the East Coast. Watch your driving, other people may be impatient and angry, and expect road rage. Other accidents are possible as well, so use caution in all activities.

This energy peaks on September 16, as Mars and Mercury are exact at 7 degrees of Virgo. If this aspects a mutable (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces) planet in your chart you will feel the effects, depending on what is being aspected.

What a man desires and who he marries

Astrology can show us what we desire in a life partner, as well as obstacles we may have to overcome, and timing of events. Sometimes what we think we desire, is not exactly the same as the type of individual we attract. Sometimes the attraction is conscious, sometimes unconscious.  

In a man’s chart the planet Venus is indicative of the type of woman he desires and wants to be with.  Venus is our desire nature, and represents the “type” a man is drawn to.  The Moon however, represents the true emotional nature, and in a man’s chart it represents the wife. This may differ from his Venus. 

Sometimes a man may feel attracted to one type of woman, but in the end he will marry the kind of woman represented by the Moon in his natal chart. Sometimes the Moon and Venus are in conflict. In which case he may be attracted to one type, but marry another. When the moon and Venus are in harmony with each other, what he desires and wishes to marry are one and the same.  But, this is not always the case.

Saturn into Capricorn: building foundations and structures

Saturn is known as the taskmaster, or the Lord of Karma and the Great teacher to name a few. Without Saturn we have no stability in life. It shows us both our structures and our boundaries.

Saturn changes signs about every two and a half years, and takes about 30 years to circle through the entire zodiac. Saturn entered Sagittarius December 2014, and remains there another  five and a half months.

December 19, 2017 Saturn enters Capricorn where it will remain until March 23, 2020

Saturn in Capricorn is far different than Saturn in Sagittarius where it currently lies. Saturn in Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, and is the ninth house ruler, the place of ideas and philosophies (politics included). Saturn in Capricorn is at home in this sign.

When Saturn enters Capricorn we will all begin a new cycle and chapter altogether, both individually and collectively.

Capricorn is a no frills sign and deals with power, business and structure. Saturn here is concerned with security and structure, tradition, organization, big business and defense. If left unchecked, big business can become the new Gods of the Universe as Saturn moves through this sign.

Saturn in Capricorn can denote great wealth but also great limitations. Saturn was in Capricorn during the worst part of the Great Depression in the early 1930's. The rich got richer, and the poor got poorer.

  

The last transit of Saturn in Capricorn was from February 15, 1988 until February 5, 1991. Before that it was January of 1959-January of 1962, and December 1929-November 1932.

While in Capricorn, Saturn will build things that are meant to inspire respect (or intimidation) as much as anything else. The Berlin wall for example, began construction under a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction (August 31, 1961). It was meant to be a political symbol to keep some people in their place. We will experience another Jupiter /Saturn conjunction, considered to be an important new cycle, especially in mundane astrology in 2020.

In 2020 Pluto will conjunct Saturn at 22 degrees of Capricorn and this will bring an entire new cycle. In reality, this will be a dangerous time in the world, where many things can and will happen. Events leading up to this period will begin long before the aspect becomes exact.

Saturn-Pluto will relate to the established power structures and ruling elite versus the common people, potential nuclear events and restriction on many levels. We could see a worldwide recession. This is a restrictive transit and we will see these restrictions play out on many levels in the world and in our personal lives. This transit will affect all of those individuals with cardinal planets 20-24 degrees.

Saturn conjunct Pluto will be a stressful period and can indicate limitation, financial loss, potential war and change and transformation. Many things will change at this time or be transformed, or end all together. It will not be easy.

The last time Saturn was conjunct Pluto was in Libra June-July 1983. During this time we saw unemployment rise in the US to the highest level since 1941. Europe was dealing with the IRA, Ethiopia appealed to the world for aid when death tolls from hunger reached 4 million, the US invaded Grenada, the Philippine leader was assassinated, the US embassy in Beirut was destroyed by a suicide bomber killing 63, and Ronald Regan proposed Strategic defense initiative to name just a few world events at this time.

The positive side of this combination  can relate to industrial infrastructure, science and engineering and a deeper understanding of things like genetics and physics. Some things can be transformed for the better.

The negative side is not going to be a piece of cake: tyranny, the abuse of power and corruption, organized crime and criminal activities, nuclear incidents, power struggles, recessions, issues with the monetary system and banks, and war, and limitation on many levels.

I will write more about this in the future. But, my advice to clients is to pay off all the debt you can now, and save, save, save.

Those most affected in a challenging way by Saturn in Capricorn will be the Cardinal signs-Aries (square), Cancer (opposition), Libra (square) and Capricorn (conjunct), or those who have planets in cardinal signs.

When Saturn enters your sign (Capricorn) it can denote a stressful period. Many things end and a new situation is often born on the ruins of the old. Typically, I tell clients with Saturn in your own sign you will be re-creating yourself in some way as Saturn crosses your Sun.

Those who will fare the best will be those born under the earth and some water signs-Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, Pisces or planets in these signs. In this case you can experience slow and stable growth.

Fate or free will?

Do I create my own destiny, or is my destiny set in stone?   

This is a question I am frequently asked, and has been pondered by great minds over the centuries, and probably will be for the next few centuries as well. In my studies of astrology I have come to see the answer to the question is both. Sometimes events are ‘fated,’ and sometimes we can choose our own course.

The first thing an astrologer learns is to look at the promise of the natal chart, and what it holds.

Based on your moment of birth as well as location, a chart can be created that serves as a blueprint, not only showing your strengths and weaknesses, but certain other events and situations that will fulfill themselves at some point in your life. 

Some people were born to have multiple marriages, children, love affairs, drug addictions, illnesses, while others marry their first love and celebrate their golden anniversaries with their one and only love.

Some are destined to fame and fortune, while others will spend their lives seeking fortune.

Some will overcome poverty, addictions, destitution, broken homes and marriages and rise above their limitations, and others won’t.

We should always strive to be our best, and make manifest in our lives those worthwhile things we truly desire.  Astrology can point out the pitfalls to your success and the times you are most likely to fail as well as succeed. A good astrologer will never tell you that you are incapable of success, but rather the times you are most likely to succeed, thereby increasing your chances of success.

No one wants to fail, divorce, get sick, succumb to addictions, be a victim of crime, lose a spouse or have a broken heart. And yet the world is full of such events.

Certain planets are indicative of events that are often beyond our ability to control. What we can do is damage control.  Sometimes it isn’t about the cards you are dealt, but rather how you play your hand. 

The first planet is Pluto-known as the ‘God of the Underworld,’ the “Lord of Hell,’ and the ultimate planet of change and regeneration.  When Pluto comes into our chart we are often faced with situations that are beyond our ability to control, and we must regenerate our thoughts, and often ourselves, and let go of situations and recreate our lives, focusing on another direction. 

Saturn is the taskmaster, and while it can bring our greatest success in a good angle in our chart, a negative transit can bring about some of our greatest sorrows and hardships in life.

Uranus is the planet of revolution and the unexpected.  When Uranus enters our chart, sudden shocking and unexpected events often become the norm. Uranus is the planet that shakes things up.

Neptune is the planet of illusion, delusion and confusion, and often under a Neptune transit we fail to see the forest for the trees and are sometimes deceived or suffer from self deception.

No individual is exempt from the energies of these planets, whether in a difficult aspect or what is considered a favorable one.  Therefore no one is exempt from certain events in life that are beyond their ability to control, at certain times.

There is a fairly quick way to access whether or not you will live your life feeling you are in charge of your own destiny.

When you look at your natal chart it is a wheel with twelve divisions. 

If you draw a line exactly through the middle of the chart—the tenth house/ midheaven to the IC, fourth house—exactly down the middle, you will either have a predominance of planets on the left side or the right side.

If you have more planets on the left half of the chart, you generally feel that your ‘fate,’ is in the hands of others. If you have more planets on the right or Western side, you may generally feel that you are in control of your own destiny. This simple technique often colors our opinions about fate, or our ability to control our own life.

Of course you must also take into consideration the elements and signs the planets are in. Sometimes the planets are fairly evenly divided.  What’s in your chart?
